BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

What is your go-to plugin to turn lines into tubes for such chair? I can't find one that would connect all the pipes smoothly.

Just an update...It was a lot of trial and error but I got it to work! I feel so accomplished. I would make a note to any others trying to do this (or maybe I am the only knucklehead) that the "animation" does not show up when switching between scenes on the tray but only when switching between scenes on the tabs above the drawing window. Can't tell you how many times I would redraw and switch at the tray only to be very disappointed. However, best way to learn! Won't make that mistake again. Anyway, thanks again for your help!!

@box said: The main problem is your hole isn't a hole. Should it go all the way through or is it a cavity? Is the size critical, as in, can it be slightly narrower so that it hits the flat bottom correctly? Thanks for drawing my attention to that. I looked at the drawing in Freecad and it appeared to look OK - until I read your response and looked at it again in wireframe. That showed strange extra faces, but I never thought it was to do with the hole being of larger diameter than the bottom face. I reduced the hole size and now it exports fine. Looks like I will have to rethink the design as the hole size needed is for tapping, and re-drilling before tapping the 3D printed output may not be satisfactory. We'll see. Thanks again

@jakemm said: Does the GPU actually make much of a difference to SketchUp itself? I've heard conflicting comments, and I guess with the eGPU it's easy to see the difference as you can just unplug it. I just tested 2 scenario's using the CrowdTest 3dModel from the 3dWarehouse. First: Laptop with eGpu connected (gtx1080) with two large monitors. Biggest Scene(11) runs fine - eGPU 40% used (Task Manager) Disconnecting the eGpu while running SketchUp crashes SketchUp (and Unreal etc). Makes sense though. Second: Laptop running on its own (integrated gpu), only laptop display. Already in smaller scenes SketchUp is showing simplified geometry instead of the people. Big delays while switching between people and the simplified geometry. So for me, and the dual external monitor setup, already in SketchUp it's a big difference. I can just focus on my work and don't get annoyed that much by SketchUp's performance (unless I run a plugin while the Outliner is open, or LayOut is freezing for half a minute while updating etc.) It will depend though on your models. I rarely exceed 500k edges.

Have a look and see if your RAM is running out. If it is - make sure you close all internet tabs, photoshop and as many other programs as you can. Also try and reduce the size of the SketchUp window to as small as possible while the file is opening - to the size of a postage stamp if possible. This reduces the demand on the computer and has helped me open files in the past that were too large. Then after it has fully loaded, you can gradually increase the size of the window and trim some of the file size out by clearing out some of the model and re-saving the file.

@pixero said: Not sure I understand how it would work. Let's say you have three grouped boxes that are made into a group. What would be shown since the "parent" only is a group with subgrouped geometry inside? The parent doesn't contain any geometry. I imagine that if one group with one of the boxes is active, the other grouped boxes (inactive) would be shown as well, because they're also children of the big group that contains all three boxes. Anything in the model that's out of the parent group, would be hidden. I think such feature could be helpful in many situations with complex models where groups contain grouped groups etc.

Create a SketchUp template with a "dummy model" and scenes set up to show the desired views of the model. Then create a LayOut template that uses the scenes from your template for the various viewports making sure you don't modify the scenes in LayOut. Set the scale as needed for the viewports. Use the Sketchup template for modeling. When you are ready to create the LayOut document, open LayOut, select the LO template and, in Document Setup>References, relink the SKP file from the dummy model to your project model. As long as the scenes have the same names and are not modified, the viewports will show the project model. Here's an example from one of my LO templates. The template opens like this: [image: pvB2_Screenshot-11_21_201811_56_08AM.png] And, after relinking the SKP file to the project SKP file, those viewports look like this: [image: G7VE_Screenshot-11_21_201811_56_26AM.png] FWIW, the project title is Auto Text. While I'm in Document Setup, I add the title and it auto fills in the places needed.

Hadn't heard of that one before. Has some nice functionality but unfortunately it's not enough for this situation. The Curic align tool can only move things according to their centerpoint or origin point. So with the objects being of different sizes, moving things around based on those points won't do me much good. I need something that will take into account where the previous object ends, and adjust the next one's starting point accordingly. The closest one I've come up with so far is the 2DXY Slick Moves which does arranging items up equidistantly like I want. However I can't seem to influence the distances involved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l39jgyJvDUI

Overlapping entities when you make an array with Move/Copy, indicates you aren't moving the first copy far enough from the original. Your Facebook link is bad.

rv1974 Like i said, i use them for years (always logitech, i think since ~20 years now), no problems in SU. I have a G700s. The software of the G300s should be basically the same (Logitech Gaming Software). https://youtu.be/vn7D8O7_d50?t=252 You can define any keystroke you want. I use combinations of two or more buttons for the shortcuts in SU to multiply the buttons of the mouse.

I can't look at the model so I can't tell what data you have or what you do with it. For working in SU (on buildings) I don't think complex meshes are helpful and for creating most work simple planes are most useful. So transferring the input to planes that approximate the existing data is best, as it seems you are doing. Then portions of the mesh might be included for specific uses, in the file later, or in a composite file .
