    • RE: New computer and Matter Port mesh

Okay, Thanks all...guess it's a limitation with SU and not so much my system.

FYI to use the mesh, I've pulled line work from a series of plan sections at 2',4',6',etc.
stacked them, and then traced my walls with cleaner line work on a transparent plane sitting above the stack. The scan is pretty damn accurate so it's super helpful for getting an as-built model quickly. I'll try lofting the walls thru the section slices later, but imagine that will be a slow process.

      Thanks!

    • New computer and Matter Port mesh

      Hi,
I was wondering if others, preferably with a computer with similar specs to mine, could test this model out.

Just got new laptop and just started playing around with doing site surveys with Matterport's 3d camera. The problem is I'm getting the same lag issue with my old desktop as on my new laptop (possibly worse)

I just got this laptop and am a bit underwhelmed: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1400601-REG/gigabyte_15_6_aero_15x_v8_bk4.html

I started with a clean windows install and new drivers, but am still having issues inside Sketchup pro 2018. I thought with the better graphics card and processor I would have no problems, but alas.

Would anyone be able to see how this model preforms on their system? I get a significant stutter / lag issue where navigating:

I'm not sure if with this is just too much geometry and file size for Sketchup to handle, or if I need to tweak my system. Any advice is welcome.

      Here's the laptop specs:
      Gigabyte Aero 15X v8-BK4
      i7-8750H
      Geforce GTX 1070 9with max Q design)
      16 GB RAM
      512G SSD
      Windows 10
      SU Pro 2018

      Thanks in advance

    • Project imported cad linework to surface quickly?

      Hello.

I've imported some AutoCAD linework. The linework is not planar. I'd like to project this linework onto a flat plane Ive created. What is the quickest way to do this?

      Thanks!

could you offset the top surface, select the outer edges (as shown) and drag them downwards while locked in z axis?

Update: Chaos group sent a custom build for me to try and it worked with all plugins enabled. I assume this will be an updated release soon.

    • Load Error, repeated crash after Vray upgrade

Hi, I upgraded to Vray 3 (and reprogrammed my dongle).
I am using Windows 8.1 and Sketchup Pro 2018.
I repeatedly get the message below and then SU crashes. It is unusable.
This problem is not happening in 2016 and Vray 3 works fine there.

    • RE: Zoom speed in LayOut

Comparing 2016 and 2018 (for some reason i can't open both at the same time, is that normal?) but the wheel definitely scrolls slower in 2018.
one push of the scroll wheel in 2016 goes from 100% to 160%
one push of the scroll wheel in 2018 goes from 100% to 130%

Any help on this issue? The scroll wheel is a lot slower to zoom than previous versions of Layout.

      Another way with SubD plugin...

in this case, i had to match a photo pretty accurately. with subd i often have a hard time getting predictable results... spending a lot of time fiddling with creating quads (which i can never seem to get right) and crease strength.

      more practice i guess.

    • RE: How to round edges

first off, rotating the circle so that the start and end points of the path are 90 degrees to the radius just saved me a lot of headache. (i initially tried follow me for this project, but without rotating, and got a slight distortion. So i turned to curviloft for the extrusion). so that's a lesson learned.

The Dave Method and Round Corner worked great after that!

As a side note, while trying to figure this out I decreased the number of vertices in my profile curve (using "merge near vertices" in vertex tools) and this was able to get the sharp crease i was after (see pic)... but I've lost some detail. I'll have to find a happy medium.

      Thanks for the guidance
