BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Hi Guys, I'm trying to do similar. Is there a way to write a script that could delete all items that get called in outliner per search term. I am trying to clean up a model for rendering provided by a client. The file has every bathroom, sink, door, light, etc for thousands of apartments. Unless I explode everything I have to delete by each level I have managed to separate everything into. Currently I have to go through each definition X each building X each level. Each time I select and delete it takes like 5 minutes. I have already spent a day doing this. It's getting really tedious. [image: yEC5_Capture.JPG]

This is the problem when model has geometry far away from UCS. Correct IFC so all the geometry is close to UCS - do not use absolute coordinates.

I know this is an old post, but this is exactly the same problem that I have on nearly any model that I import from an STL. It takes hours to fix and because of it I am seriously ready to ditch SU for Fusion. It's NOT caused from bad geometry practices so don't even say it! I can have a hole in the mesh and literally draw 1 line to close it and it will create many extra faces. I have had up to 15 extra faces on top of each other! This is a serious bug and I cannot believe it is still going on many years later! Most of the holes are caused when I import an STL into SU like I did with the example file that I am including. I have already painstakingly closed each hole up manually since I have yet to find an extension that can do this automatically. I bet I spend 50% of my total time in SU just fixing holes and deleting extra faces, this is simply unacceptable. Please help if you know what is going on and how to fix it. Thanks! Run Solid Inspector to see all the extra faces

Yea, I'm trying that in several different ways right now. Thanks for responding! Bob @srx said: They are not so smart You have to separate surface in several groups which does not break, and than use the tools.

Hey guys, thank you for your responses and ideas I guess this wont work for the intended use in the pipeline to 3DS Max.. First, thanks @Dave for clarifying the correct term, great I can get back to guide point as the proper term, just read "construction point" pretty often in SU context and therefor though it should be like this. Better to stick to guide points though I totally get the point that in a SU context there would be many workarounds - and using a component, e.g. a cross of lines with some "meta"information would be ideal and I would have done it that way. Wouldn't work in 3DS Max like this - and the programs that follow. I need to set up a certain hierachy in 3DS, linked to guide points. And I have to process a bunch of objects from the same file - ideally e.g. exporting FBX with autmatic naming of the linked elements based on the guide points name. Thats why I was asking for guide point naming informations in SU.. And actually in 3DS all guide points come in in a numerical order, which makes it hard to identify the correct relating guide points. If I'd use components in SU I maybe could realign guide points in 3DS to those components - but then I'm left with the same: guide points in a numerical order without any name.. Maybe some scripting could help but this is beyond my knowledge, sadly. So I guess I have to stick with whats given and resort / rename the SU guide points in 3DS as I did it now. But dont you know of any option to change the viewport representation of guide points in SU, to eg. make them larger? As I need to keep going with the SU guide points workflow this would make the working with them a bit easier. Just a rough guess: Maybe I could nest a single guide point in a group and name that group - MAYBE that could be used for carrying over some information - but I guess it's not helping as guide points come in loose, no matter if they are inside a group/component or not.. At least through the native .skp file import in 3DS. Maybe any other ideas? Best, Niko EDIT Ah, shoot, putting a single guide point a group won't work.. If I have eg two lines in a group (+ a guide point, guidepoint + one single line won't work) - as soon as I delete the lines the group disappears, and so does the guide point.. EDITEDIT It DOES work indeed.. The guide point disappeared as it was somehow connected to the line I drew from it. Putting all objects a bit to the side and adding another guide point at the worlds origin worked. Dont know if this helps me in 3DS - but its something.

Prior to SU2017 they used the browser supplied by the operating system so it's always been important to keep the OS-supplied browser up to date. That gets to be a problem when the OS is out of date and not getting supported anymore.

I save the file using the reverse date as a prefix to the file name. Eg, 181024 House1.skp, 181025 House1.skp. Easy Peesy.

If you close the curve around the lake so it is almost offset of it, and than move the lake, I guess it will be ok. You could start with offseting the lake to have a guide.

Try editing the style and reducing the opacity of the watercolor overlay in the Watermark settings. [image: L7nm_Screenshot-10_16_20189_48_47PM.png]

Could it be the scale as well? There are a few plugins that can scale the definition of a component. I use it for imported objects that are the wrong scale. Search for scale definition.

gilles, if you traced one of the existing edges at the base of the pyramid instead of drawing the diagonal, you'd still get the face on the bottom but you could eliminate the step of erasing the unneeded diagonal line. [image: ov7d_pyramid.gif] Might need to click on the picture.

We've been trying to get 3DConnexion to acknowledge and fix this issue for years, but so far no luck! It doesn't happen to everyone and doesn't happen every time. There's been a topic on the Trimble SketchUp forum where simoncbevans found that if he disabled the MacOS firewall while installing the driver and then turned it back on afterward that his device started to behave. I tried that, and for me the results are still erratic: many times SketchUp will work just fine, and then suddenly for no obvious reason the memory blows up again.

@pixero said: In Max I convert all materials to standard materials and export as obj then I use SIM lab to save it as skp. I think I get components through ok that way. At least I havent noticed anything but it was some time since I converted anything so I might be wrong. Hi Pixero! Yes I convert all materials to standard materials too. And now I tried converting OBJ format to skp in simlab composer. it did a good job and everything is fine! all instances are components in Sketchup format. Thanks for the pro tips!
