    BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

    Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

    When I do interior elevations in my models, I set it up in a new sketchup file and reference in my 'base' model. This way i don't have a million scenes or section lines in my main construction model.

    I guess I did not answer your question fully a 30 frame per second video under 2 minutes long of a single House of the detail level that I was showing in that video would probably be around 3 hours in my experience with my machine. Changing the size and length you can easily get one under the 2-hour mark

    For a definitive answer you need to consult legal counsel. One thing is clear, if you are using SketchUp in any commercial way, you need to be using SketchUp Pro or SketchUp Shop. If you are charging people to see your tutorials, you can't legally do it with SketchUp Free or SketchUp Make.

    By using only two contours each time you are naturally creating hard edges at each join. Use more contours and get smoother transitions.

    What's your SU version, and What QGIS version? There used to a shp tool very long ago. Also have just found this, which may be a solution, or a path to one: https://forums.sketchup.com/t/importing-shapefiles-shp-to-sketchup-skp/59032/10 I can't help you more than that at moment. Haven't used SU for a while so it looks like folk are still doing interesting things with it.

    Yep! I totally agree. I wish that the new versions of sketchup would not always default to the newest version to save. This is really why. This constantly causes me trouble when I go to use a computer connected to a CNC cutter I have access to. Have to remember to save as ver 2015 or it just doesn't work. And I suspect it's forced obsolescence, not a mandate that the versions be incompatible. Aaargh! Oh and Pilou, that 6 is exactly the kind of thing I'm working from! That much I have, it's when the center of the bottom loop of the 6 becomes a closed cone that I get my problems.
