Yeah, I think you'll definitely need to live with the compromise, because there's not some "universal" solution to this problem (and it can get even more complex with multiple nesting levels and/or multiple instances of the "father" component with different scale factor. You will indeed loose the "instancing" benefit, otherwise it will be a mess.. No matter the code. Buon anno a te!

@jaime_s Sorry, but I made the decision early on to not sell any of my models. That would make it seem more like work rather than something I do because I enjoy it.

The developers haven't have made any changes to SketchUp 2021 since late in 2021. The .3ds exporter in SketchUp 2021 wouldn't have been changed, either. You can be certain that the developers won't be looking at the exporter in old, unsupported versions of SketchUp. Maybe there's something in your model that is resulting in the slow down. You could share the .skp file. We could try the export in the current version and see what happens. @onzki said in Export to .3ds takes forever: I’m using 2021 Pro Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2024. Do you get a different export result with that version?

Thanks @krass for putting it in a new topic! That makes it easier for me to keep track, instead of tracking everything in the huge release thread. I typed up a comprehensive guide: https://rayscaper.com/faq/licensing/#how-do-i-release-a-license-seat

@ntxdave said in Create new or adjust materials: The only problem I am having now is that when I rotate the object (actually the camera) So you mean orbit the camera? @ntxdave said in Create new or adjust materials: the image on the back side of the heart comes and goes Sounds like Z-fighing. Make the image of the heart a texture and apply it to just the back face of the heart. Turn on Hidden Geometry so you can paint the back separately from the rest.

so, on the white "paper" space you would have a list (slots) for entering text "kitchen light", "kitchen outlet", "garage door", "clothes washer", "clothes dryer" etc and add some parameters like voltage, amperage, single, dual, etc? "clothes dryer", 240V, 30A, SINGLE -> voltage logic would span a 240V across both busses? "air conditioner", 240V, 50A, DUAL -> would have two 240V splitting 25A across each for the air handler and compressor? "kitchen lights", 120V, 20A, DUAL -> split two 10A circuits on single breaker (dual switches) for overhead and under counter lights to save breaker slots etc

You seemingly haven't installed it from its RBZ. If you simply copy the ../Plugins/HouseBuilder_extension.RB file over to the newer SketchUp version it misses the images to make the toolbar-buttons [and worse!]... Unfortunately the original author was in the dim past [20years ago] and made a half-baked extension loader file, and he didn't give his subfolder the same name as the RB file. The new[ish] auto-migration tool assumes this file/folder naming convention and so it misses out copying the subfolder of images [and some other vital support files that are in that folder]. To fix it you need to find the whole HouseBuilder folder [and its contents intact] in your older version's Plugins folder and copy that whole folder over into the newer SketchUp version's Plugins folder. When you startup SketchUp it should now find the subfolder and load the buttons' images and the other vital support files...

That's called Camera Clipping. It occurs when parts of a 3D scene that fall outside the camera's visible region, known as the viewing frustum.

Thanks TIG, I am honored that my hero is commenting on the path I am going. Okay I will add more guidance on each section. Also will try to make it "dynamic" before finalizing. Color coding is meant to show the pressure forces on each part of the mesh. It meant to generate the best "compressure-only" structure out of the given input. will update it soon.
