Pic2Shape extracts contours from images as faces / edges geometry.

The contouring is based on pixel transparency, which can come from the image itself (in PNG), or from filtering in / out colors. The geometry can be generated as:

      • Just contours
      • Faces with default material
      • Faces textured with the image
      • FaceMe component

FredoSection provides several tools dedicated to section planes:

      • Generation of section cut faces with hatching patterns at scale for section planes which are active in scenes. Patterns can be assigned by Container and/or by Tag
        b63f7c96-0923-4cf4-b54d-53ff11f516bd-image.png

      • Section box: create a configurable set of section planes (inside box, outside box, custom section line) for a selection of geometry.
        4e38ed57-155c-451d-90e7-e08b99f0280a-image.png

      • Door and window schedule: create a permanent companion model with selected views of doors and windows, which can then be mapped at scale in a Layout document. This will be released in a next version however.
        22970415-2c9b-40d6-8459-c4c57b9a8f8c-image.png

      • Pattern Manager: This tool is used to create / modify hatching patterns and assign them to groups and components to decorate their cut faces created by the other tools above. FredoSection comes with a set of built-in patterns, but you can create your own.
        d62bc2a3-4b82-4d51-be19-e95f00bb1db9-image.png

FredoSection is mainly oriented to support a workflow Sketchup + Layout. It only works on Scenes. The hatching patterns are scaled by scene, so that they always appear at the same size when printed on paper. This requires that you assign a paper scale to each scene processed.

FredoConnect is dedicated to allowing a team to work concurrently on a shared model, synchronizing the changes between team members and managing change conflicts.

The typical workflow implies that each team member:

      • works on a local copy of the shared model,
      • publishes the changes he makes to the model,
      • updates his model with the changes made by other team members.

You do not have to specify what needs to be published and what needs to be updated; FredoConnect tracks the changes in contributing models to consolidate a synchronized version of the shared model.

FredoConnect provides conflict detection and management, allowing team members to be aware of what others are changing to the model, and deciding on how to resolve conflicts if two or more team members modify concurrently the same object(s).

      Overview and Main Concepts

      Sub-Models

You can extract a sub-model from the shared model and work on it with the benefit of synchronization with the rest of the team.

A sub-model is just a model with a selection of objects taken from the shared model.

A sub-model behaves like the full shared model for synchronization and lock, with one specific characteristic: the top-level of a sub-model cannot be published or updated

      Variants

This feature can be used to maintain different versions of the model in parallel, while sharing and synchronizing changes across the team. The principle is as follows:
** A Variant model is created from an instance model under a Variant code
** If an object is modified in a Variant model, it becomes a Variant Object
** Variant objects are synchronized between instance models registered with the same Variant Code, BUT not with regular models and models having a different variant code.
** Therefore the same objects can be modified differently in regular models and models having a different variant code.

      Shared Annotations

Shared Annotations are small messages exchanged within the team about the model. Annotations are automatically synchronized between computers and master models.

      Information Tool

The Object Information tool allows you to browse the model in order to get details about objects.

Hovering the Team icon highlights the objects which have been last published in the instance model (somehow ‘owned’ from the instance model)

      Foreign Objects

Foreign objects are definitions that are imported from another software than SketchUp. The current list of data formats is based on what is supported natively by SketchUp, at least:

      • Autocad: DWG, DXF
      • IFC
      • Collada (DAE)
      • 3DS Max (3DS)
      • Google Earth (KMZ)
      • STL
      • Elevation Model (DEM, DEF)
      • SketchUp (SKP), which is actually a method to do XRef-ing

      Lock and Hard Lock

Locking an object prevents other team members from modifying the object.

      An object can be locked

      • at top level,
      • optionally, with all its nested sub-objects. This option will also do a hard lock of the objects in the model of other team members (i.e. lock at Sketchup level)

FredoBend is a plugin dealing with bending geometry along curves and over surface.

      There are 3 tools published:
** Bend Along Curve takes a container, a curve (or sequence of edges) and bends the geometry of the container along the curve with various options.
** Circular Bend bends a container along an arc of circle in 3D with various options
** Dome Bend bends a container along two arcs of circle in 3D with various options. This allows to build domes, toruses or saddles

    • RE: Is Proportional Numeric Scaling the Missing Feature in FredoScale?

Here is the workflow with FredoScale

      • you hover a handle
      • you press TAB
      • in the dialog, you type the dimensions

FredoScale - Rescale by dimension with TAB.mp4

If the handle corresponds to several degrees of freedom, you have 2 or 3 dimension fields showing up.

      You can also set dimensions:

      • with Uniform scaling. So, setting one dimension will set the others
      • without Uniform scaling, where you can set individual dimensions.

HOWEVER, I realize that there are bugs in this dialog box, which I have not been made aware. So, I will fix them.

But here is the workflow. At the time of design, I thought this was much clearer than to rely on the VCB where the distinction between a scaling factor and a dimension requires that you type a unit, and also where it is fuzzy when you want to change several dimensions.

      In addition, the fields accept formulas, like "4 * (2m + 3')"

For information, you CANNOT put 'r' in front of the number. If you type 'r' as first character, then Sketchup will switch to whatever command has a shortcut 'r'.

The distinction between radius, angle and number of segments is based on whether a letter follows the number:

      • if no character or 'd', this is an angle
      • if 's', this is a number of segments
      • if 'r' this is a radius
      • if something else that can be interpreted as a unit (', ", m, cm, mm, etc...), then it is also a radius with specified units
      • otherwise, it is ignored

Note that in the case of the Dome tool, you can add a digit 1 or 2 after, to specify whether this relates to the first or second curve.

      • 33s2 will set 33 segments for the second curve
      • 45.3d2 will set the angle to 45.3 degrees for the second curve
      • so, 35.6r2 will set the radius to 35.6 model unit for the second curve
      • and 35.6m2 will set the radius to 35.6m for the second curve

To finish with the VCB convention, if you type 2 values that are of the same categories, they apply to the curve1 and then the curve2. For instance: '33.4 45.6' will set the angles to 33.4 deg. for curve1 and 45.6 deg. for curve 2.

Ok. This is not complex to add in FredoBend, both for the Circular tool and the Dome tool.

However, there is question of the precedence of the angle versus the radius, since they are both related by a formula which also includes the length of the original shape along the bending direction.

      1) Should the angle always prevail? that is, when you specify a radius, it calculates the angle and keep the angle as the main parameter. So, entering a radius is just a transient way to specify the angle.

      2) or should the input mode be remembered? that is, if you specify a radius, FredoBend remembers that you specified a radius and will keep your radius value and adjust the angle dynamically, should the original shape change. Same if you specify an angle, it remembers that you specified than angle and will adjust the radius accordingly.

I also have to find a way to specify the radius in the VCB. Currently, a simple float value is for the angle. So, I'll probably set the convention for radius to be a flaot followed by a 'r' (ex: 3.5r, means 3.5 in current model unit), or a float with unit specification (ex: 3.5m or 3.5').

This is a reasonable feature request for sure. I did not include it because personally, I did not see cases where I would have to specify the radius rather than the angle.

Actually the angle is an absolute parameter, that will stay the same, even if the shape changes.

In contrast, the radius depends on the total length of the shape along the bending direction. If you change the shape, the radius will change. Somehow, input of the radius is a one-time specification to compute the equivaleent angle for the given shape.
