Thankyou all so much. Thank you @TIG and @Fredo6. Really appreciated. I haven’t updated to the latest OS for Mac yet, and I won’t do for a while yet, as everything is running smoothly at the moment. I will now install the updates to the Extensions though. Once again, thank you. Kind regards Mike

Cotty is correct. We need to see your SKP file to give you better information. In general, the best thing would have been to plan ahead and make groups as you go instead of trying to separate out the parts now. One option that could work, though it's a bit clunky is to copy the group with Edit>Copy. Then edit the group and erase the bits you don't wan. After you've cut it down to a single part, use Edit>Paste in place and repeat the process for another part. Continue with Paste in place and edit until you have each part in its own group.

I have one master model w/ ~150,000 faces that I broke up into 8 or 9 sub-assemblies. To ensure a correct placement in the final product I would pick a location in the master model and draw a triangle from there to where I would create an origin point in each future sub-assembly. That gave me an exact number of meters for an XY offset. Of course that triangle would be sent off to the sub-assembly too just in case I needed to importing everything back into a master model for inspection. When I was sure I was done I'd make a copy, remove my offset triangle, and export from there. When I just needed to clear out space and work on everything separately (but always intended to produce just a single model), I'd do the reload component trick mentioned above.

thanks to Eneroth, i learned that the axis origin of a group can be moved to wherever you need it by right-clicking one of the axis lines in the edit mode and choosing ''place''. you then close, re-open and scale. but to be clear, i am talking about re-sizing - not scaling. although re-sizing can also be construed as re-scaling. clear as mud?

Thea 4 Sketchup is very good in that. IES lights are represented as SU geometry - components which can be saved as you wish. Here is how lights work: https://youtu.be/wpfxLgbsSyQ

The main API issue with the v2017 changes was how exploded entities' IDs changed. Perviously if you made a temporary group and got references to its edges/faces etc, then when you exploded the group you could reuse those references, if they were still valid. With v2017 any in-group references are lost, all exploded entities get new IDs ! So all of the code using the old methods needs recasting so that it catches the IDs of the exploded entities, not there previous IDs. Another workaround is to give the group's entities' custom attribute IDs and then re-collect them after the explosion... This is possible: it's just a pain [PITA] to recode. However, there are some subtle issues that are still unresolved. In a few weeks I'll be at DevCamp... and then. hopefully, thomthom and others can help me track what's up with a few of my ExtrudeTools. I have now trapped all of the issues which I can see, and I ensure that start/commit_operations are properly set... BUT in a few of the tools, although they complete their work perfectly, when the user subsequently does an UNDO it BugSplats ! That is after that extrude tool has successfully completed and the commit is properly recorded !!

Maybe. I'd kind of be surprised if there is. You'd think someone would have done something like that by now if they could. Leader and other text looks so much nicer in LayOut and it's easier to control, too.

[image: l0xs_ScreenShot2017-09-26at3.24.30PM.png] I DID IT!!!! I have spent all day trying to do this. So I will share my learnings. I started with a Google search: Plugin Extension HouseBuilder How to install, a sketch up community link forum populates. With user posts circa 2015. This is important, scroll down until to find contributor: Tig -- the Sketchup God, he post a link to the HouseBuilder plugin, which I understand he went in and recoded a fix. Ok, here is the breakdown. (FYI I'm using MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 with SketchUp Make 2017-- FOR METRIC--thanks TIG) Step 1: Download TIG's HouseBuilder. This is not as simple as meets the eye. You must get TIG's improved version of HouseBuilder. As TIG is a contributor to SKETCHUCATION.COM you must go there and create an account. This is were I wasted a lot of time. I created a log in and simply tried to click on TIG's link. I got nothing! Hours later, much desperation. I started over at the google search (mentioned above) and followed TIG's hyperlink to SketchUcation.com, LOGGED IN BEFORE PROCEEDING, and then followed the link TIG posted here for METRIC. Note: there are two, one is a ZIP other is RBZ, I took the second. It landed in my DOWNLOADS. Lesson the link came up as broken even though I was logged into SketchUcation. If, this happens log out start over. Step 2: Open Sketchup. Go to WINDOW >EXTENSION MANAGER, note HouseBuilder is not visible here, click the red button INSTALL EXTENSION, you will get pop-up to navigate to your DOWNLOADS folder, yay... almost there. select your recent download house builder.

You have downloaded an RBZ file - a type of ZIP file - containing the files and folders needed by the plugin [aka an 'extension']. It needs to be 'installed'. SketchUp menu: Window > Extension Manager > Install Extension... [red button] Find the RBZ and install it. Most installed extensions are then immediately available in their [sub]menu items or toolbars - read the usage details for each one. BUT, in the case of most of Fredo's tools [and many of thomthom's and a few other authors] you must also install a set of helper files - in this case: https://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=LibFredo6 After installing the Lib, you are probably best advised to restart SketchUp to ensure everything is synced. You only need to install the Lib once. Unless of course a new version is available, and a particular extensions says it's installation is necessary.

It's because the bending skewed that particular surface, so to retain it a diagonal was added. The two triangular facets are no longer coplanar, so you can't simply delete that shared edge. You can use Erase + Ctrl to smooth it. If you use View > Hidden Geometry > ON you'll see various added smoothed edges in the bent form. Somehow that one slipped through. So just 'smooth' it, and carry on...

No. The Style's default front and back colors are that - just colors - NOT textured materials. It's best to have a distinctive back-face color, so that in Monochrome view mode it's them easy to see incorrectly oriented faces.

@pcmoor said: if using in the context of lenz attribute and assuming using cm, then value compare current("lenz")*2.54 lenz = if(current("lenz")*2.54<=240,240,if(current("lenz")*2.54<=270,270,if(current("lenz")*2.54<=300,300,360))) if calculating a nearest_size attribute without forcing the lenz to snap to the result, then use size = if(lenz<=240,240,if(lenz<=270,270,if(lenz<=300,300,360))) Sometimes, I think I'm smart, and then someone proves to me I'm not so! Sorry about the delayed response mate, I just got to try that and bang, works a treat!!!!!!!! You are a modern day superhero!!!!!!
