Feels like spam posting an ad for your commercial tutorials in the tutorial section rather than posting a tutorial.

What I meant in reference to your sketch was that it was missing certain details. Is it flush to a wall or a corner? How much detail is needed? Is it to visualize or to produce drawings from? It is a nice sketch and the form relatively easy to do if there's a bit more info

Thanks a lot for your reply, much appreciated! I have some complicated components that after selecting the -Move Tool-, I am not able to find/choose the origin of the component as it is snapping to many other faces, edges and whatnot. That's why I am looking for a ruby script that I can run after selecting the component and it will automatically move it to 0,0,0 by the component's origin point.

Got all that, thanks... I may be suffering from my version (SU8) though... Can install the sketchucation plugin, but nothing appears in the program. Likewise with Toolsonsurface... I do already have LibFredo installed and Fredo tools, among other things. I found version 1.8 of the Toolsonsurface, as a zip file. Followed the premise of unzipping and copying to the plugins folder, but again, never appears in the program... I have a sense that it all ends here... Thanks for chiming in all the same...

@grizzler said: but I think I need 3 tags for the two items - one for the 3D file, one for the 2D image and a third for the pair as a component. Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2022. If that's correct you could use a tag folder to contain the tag for the 3D trees and the tag for the 2D circle. Then leave the top level component untagged. Turning off the visibility for the tag folder would hide both the 3D and 2D components or you can hide one or the other by controlling the tag visibility.

@box said: Segments. There is always a limit to the number of segments Sketchup can deal with. There is also an unfortunate lack of good error messages built into sketchup. 10000 segments of a single continuous 'curve' will tend to crash sketchup without a bugsplat. Your question appears to show that 6000 segments is the limit on a follow me before it gives you an error that is somewhat meaningless. Thanks for going to all the trouble, some very useful information for myself and probably others. Very much appreciated And you're right about the 'somewhat meaningless' error messages. It might as well have said 'This ain't gonna work, but we're not gonna tell you why'

@mill3rluke said: Hi All, I use SU extensively for work, usually I model the project in SU and then detail using Autocad. I have layout although it does have its uses for some bits but i just preferer Autocad. I would like to start rendering some of my projects but im on a super budget. I would be interested to hear anyone's suggestions cheap rendering packages or any workarounds to make a more presentation during the final design to send to the client for approval. see link below for some examples + pictures of the scheme in construction. https://ln5.sync.com/dl/1e47f1540/npanmzn3-2748qapy-ec3hna8r-adckwv95 thanks I would suggest to give a try to D5 render, which is pretty good and easy to use, works very well with Sketchup and is quite cheap being that is actually free. The only drawback is that it requires a GPU suitable for raytracing, so make sure you've got one if you want try it.
