Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

@twdant said: .........I keep having an issue where only the innermost plane will actually cut, the others make lines on the geometry where the cuts should be, but don't actually cut and hide the material on the opposite side of the plane. It seems like this might be a bug because the material that should be hidden is not clickable. I've attached a screen dump picture for reference....... I can't make anything of the uploaded file. But in general, see if you have mirrored groups or components with section planes inside. They won't work like they are supposed to, this is a bug. Top level or nested, doesn't matter. It's that section planes just do not work properly inside the grouped environment. The wrong side is visible but not selectable while when being in editing context all seems to be correct. See if this applies to your situation.

I switched hardware acceleration off briefly and didn't notice the effect... but anyway, I started noticing a couple other weird graphical issues outside of SU, so I figured it was a graphics driver issue. I had already tried updating the driver, but this morning I did a full wipe and reinstall of it, and it seems to have worked. Thanks for your help, Dave.

Oh well sorry If I upset you. Could you pop back when you have a minute and delete the threads that you think you have already deleted so that other people don't start replying to them too. Just a heads up, posting in the General Discussion forum actually limits the number of people who see your question as it only visible to premium members and above. So for a wider audience unrelated to premium issues you are better off in a different section.

@845adi said: I have tried 2004 and 2010 versions in both DXF and DWG....the DXF won't open at all, and the DWG now opens but there is very little information in the file. I've had to import CAD models that originated in Revit for work before. The problem is I have to go through an literally explode every block, otherwise sketchUp skips those items. What I'm not sure is whether this is because these are "AEC objects" (which I also dont necessarily understand & tend to ignore). Hope that helps. Isn't there a way to save a revit model into .3ds format and import through there? I believe I've done that once, and only had to flip a bunch of faces, but with very little information lost.

I suspect your model is not 'solid'... Most 3dPrinters [i.e. taking STL] expect 'manifold solids'... There are lots of posts about this... Please give more [helpful] details... Can you attach the SKP to a post ?

I'm sure you guys know but, for renaming you have a plugin from renderiza that's called "Rename by Layer". It's very good! Pick all the groups/components, select a name or definition name, set a name and rename them all sequentially. For components you can use the definition name "Component#N". Or you can select Components, Groups or Components and Groups and change all "Name" while numbering or not, prefixed or sufixed... Cool thing is that "Rename by Layer" can also rename by layer... (never used it that way)

Unfortunately I just read this post yesterday! Alas so much to learn, so little time! I will use components someday this way... I... will... evolve! (it's just so dificult!)

Thanks Rich! That was very useful! I was never using unwrapping on large scenes but single / multiple objects only. Actually even for rendering animations this will be MORE than helpful. Great, thanks again!

Dave - great suggestions on creating new materials - I will definitely start using this method. Thx. @dave r said: Once you have the materials "In Model" you can drag their thumbnails down to the palette, the grid area at the bottom of the Window. Then switch to the desired destination library and drag the thumbnails up from the palette. My preferred method for creating a material in the first place (on PC and Mac) is to use File>Import to import the image and apply it to a face I've already drawn that has at least one dimension already set for the known dimension of the texture. This allows me to skip the step of editing the dimensions of the material after importing. So for example, if I have a wood grain texture that is 8' long, I import and apply the material to a rectangle I've drawn that is 8' long. The width takes care of itself and so I don't need to worry about that. When I am importing new wood grain images, I might have 3 or more from the same log so I just make multiple rectangles first and apply the materials to them.

Are you printing to scale rather than a perspective view? It sounds like you have checked 'use high accuracy HLR' at the bottom right of the print dialogue. This will produce a vector drawing but at the expense of shadows and textures. Uncheck it to print shadows.

It makes sense to import vector lines if you need to be able to edit them or want to use them to flesh something out to 3D. If layers are a problem for you, clean them up or get rid of them before making the DWG file.
