Well, I understand that often it's practically impossible to take a good picture. Eventually you could however get just one side of your structure, export an image in an orthographic (parallel" view of it and make a good transparent png using that image. Then simply project the image onto a single surface.

Hi, Dylan: First thing to check would be your graphics card. Is it integrated on the motherboard? Intel integrated graphics processors historically do not perform as well as discrete, separate graphics processors. However, this may not be the problem. I was just mentioning this as a possible issue. Some mobile processors do have the capability for Skecthup and OpenGL. For instance this TabletPC has a Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family.

Thanks Dave. What a good explanation. I will try it right away. EDIT: So I did, and found out that the line color was solid black! After comparing both versions I saw that the guide lines in SketchUp 8 were thinner than in 6. I do not know if that can be changed. At least I did not find where I could change that. Rob

@dave r said: Sorted. The materials/colors need to be applied to the faces instead of to the component wrapper. Indeed. A component (as "such") will not actually be affected if you only apply a material to it "from outside" (i.e. - as Dave put it - to its wrapper only) That material will only belong to the model this component is placed in. This is not different from alignment (position, rotation...) of a component inside a model or the scale of a component when it is scaled (again) from "outside" (not while editing it). Here is a little tut that I put together on a different note but may still be interesting (does not seem to be a very popular one, as I see though): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=39655&p=350494

This is not a bug and I've moved it out of the Bugs forum. It's also an old thread so it may have been solved for "rvdruk." Cotty is on the right track. It has everything to do with the export size of the image. The style the OP applied uses raster images of lines. These lines have some specific fixed width. The lines will thus appear wider at smaller export size. This can actually be used to advantage to change the appearance of line styles. I've shown this example before which demonstrates. Right, this model was intended to be imported into a model. If the model was downloaded, use File > Import to add the component to the model.

Thanks TIG. The Components folder and Preferences options showed nothing so had to resort to 'regedit'. Sure enough, ComponentBrowser1 was pointing to my Desktop. I cleared the other ComponentBrowser keys as suggested, just in case. Everything works as it should now. Thanks for giving your time - much appreciated.

TIG, I checked and found I'd somehow put LibFredo6.rb in the LIBFREDO6_Dir_45 folder. I pulled it back into Plugins and now everything works a treat. Thanks for your help. Tim

Ok. Thank you so much. I knew something would come up with the query. I just didn't restart sketchup when I changed the settings. Big whoopie for me. I did the geolocation to find the area in the exact location where the building was at to do a sun/shade study model. Thanks again guys.

This one-liner copy/pasted into the Ruby Console + <enter> will return the angle [in degrees] between any two selected faces [just preselect 2 faces before using it] s=Sketchup.active_model.selection;a=s[0].normal.angle_between(s[1].normal).radians You can use it to form the basis of a tool... You could have the tool let the user pick 2 faces instead of the s[0] & s[1] and a dialog shows the angle, or pick an edge and if the edge.faces.length==2 use those two faces instead where 'edge' is s[0] then use a=s[0].faces[0].normal.angle_between(s[0].faces[1].normal).radians etc...

@grizzler said: I work with sheet metal mostly with 9mm thickness, so I don't need to show this thickness, plus it would take a long and unneccessary amount of time to do. So am I correct in thinking that when one sheet's edge is welded to the surface of another sheet (in my drawings), I have no choice but to put up with visible lines on the opposite side of the "sheet" where they join? Thanks for your assistance either way. You could make the front, back, and side parts individual components, then create scenes with certain items hidden. SU8 and LayOut are completely unrelated in this. In the model, the computer has a limit on where infinity meets (the front and back side of essentially a surface that is thinner than paper). In LayOut, you are talking about items being stacked onion skin style, where those on top (can sometimes) block those underneath.

Good grief! No! 7zip is not winrar. Creating the zip file was only intended to make it small enough that it could be uploaded here.
