Does this plugin maintain the original dimensions of the object being draped? I am trying to determine the amount of material I would need to vacuum form plastic over an object. Thank you for the advice.

Look at the linetool.rb example that ships with Sketchup. All you need to do is use the two picked points and length=point1.distance(point2) without drawing the line at all. You can then 'format' the result as desired...

It's a typical "scope of use" clause - you can literally take the title at it's word - "USE OF THE PRODUCTS; CONTENT IN THE PRODUCTS". In other words, what you draw with "your" version of SketchUp, and what you do with said drawings, is your business. You just can't take SketchUp apart and modify it, sell it, bundle it... yada, yada... It's like renting a car and pimping it out, or letting someone else drive it - you just don't do it, but you can drive it wherever the heck you want, and in most cases, use it for your business, "but" it's still "their" car. SketchUp belongs to Trimble - works created with the software belong to you.

You are right. We must be careful because they will be losses. But only once you convert it is still acceptable. Regards,

If you need to rotate a ring in the shape, it is sometimes easier to have a rectangle to set the rotational axis. As that was set up one can move the tool cursor to the horizon to get the green alignment. However sometimes this is not fast or I find at least, won't work in the context. As I said most of the work can be done with the scale tool, since scaling causes the rotation of the rings, in the directions you'd want.

Hi There, You may be able to do what you want using only SU by exporting an AutoCAD .dwg file - but only if you have the 'Pro' version, SU 'Free' does not have this feature. To make the export work correctly... Your model units must be inches or millimetres (maybe metres is possible in newer Corel versions?) In SU, turn off perspective with the menu item 'Camera -> Parallel Projection' Using the 'little house' menu bar, select one of the standard orthographic views (top, front, left, etc...) Now export the file (Export -> 2D Graphic), selecting the AutoCAD .dwg format. Now import this file into Corel - after selecting the file a pop-up window will appear. Choose the units to match your SU model, and make sure that the "Reduce Nodes" option is NOT ticked. Place the drawing by just hitting 'Enter' - if you try to place it with the mouse, the scale will be changed. Use Corel's 'Weld' and 'Close Curves' tools to tidy up the imported drawing (shapes will be made of many individual lines that are not joined together). Take care when cleaning up the drawing in Corel - for 3D objects you will often get many superimposed lines in the imported file. I find that it is sometimes simpler to use the import only as a guide for 'tracing' new Corel geometry (for making true vector curves etc.). If you are using the free Sketchup version, you may be able to use the 'SVG export' plugin from FlightOfIdeas - but this only exports individual faces, so there will be much more work to re-construct the drawing.

Just found the SoapSkinBubbleTool and it's a little different to stop toolbar opening every time. In the plugins folder there's a folder called SoapSkinBubble, and in there is a file called SoapSkinBubbleMenu.rb. Edit that file and find the line: sbToolbar.show and change that to: ## start troypiggo edit # sbToolbar.show state = sbToolbar.get_last_state if (state == TB_VISIBLE) sbToolbar.restore end ## end troypiggo edit

I think the issue is that if you have hidden-geometry ON the smoothed edges on 'Layer0' belonging to the surface that is otherwise on layer 'object' are visible and also they are selectable in either fence direction. If you have hidden-geometry OFF then only a right>left fence selects anything all and then it selects the 'surface' as the edges are 'hidden' [actually they are 'smoothed']- this is because it is actually selecting the invisible edges belonging to the surface which are on an ON layer, when the surface's layer itself is OFF ! In a way this is a 'bug' as you can't select hidden objects if hidden-geometry is OFF, but since it only manifests itself when layering has be used inappropriately mixing faces and edges across different layers that are ON/OFF it is hardly a show-stopper... Don't expect a fix any time soon...

Another way could be with version 8 (I am not sure how it works in a restricted environment) to zip the plugin then rename the zip extension to rbz and install the plugin from Window > Preferences > Extensions with the button at the bottom.

The US is inching towards becoming metric... You have always had 'metric' decimal money, car-engines' are measured in 'cc' [cubic-cms], the military measure horizontal distances in 'meters' [but vertical in 'feet' like all international aircraft!], and you buy cola/juice it's in 'liters' and wine is bottle in metric sizes, nutrition values on food labeling are all in metric units, photography is metric [35mm etc], even bullets come in metric sizes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UmFCc4TOTY

@bmike said: Overview of my process: ... I often have multiple models referenced. The main structure / house / etc. Then I save that model and pull apart details, modeling only what I need to show. Reference these back into LO as needed. -Mike Thanks mate. That video explains it very well, even for a noob like me. BTW I've seen some of your work in other sections of the forum here. Beautiful. Your drawings are works of art - balancing the technical and presentation is gorgeous.
