[SOLVED]Component Browser displays Desktop
-
Don't know how I did it but the top level option for browsing my components is now my Desktop! The image shows each of the folders (or shortcuts to folders) on my current Desktop and one component which I am currently working on.
I have tried all sorts of searches both on the PC and on line to find a way of removing either the folders individually or the reference to the Desktop in its entirety but have so far failed. If I remove the folders/shortcuts from the Desktop and 'Refresh' I get a clean browser window again but as soon as I put any of them back on the Desktop, they reappear. The location for Components under System Preferences is set to a location on my G: drive, not the Desktop.
Would greatly appreciate an suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Look in the Sketchup folder's Components folder [and in its subfolders] - it looks like you might have accidentally copied your Desktop into there...
If not then check that your Preferences for Files > Components point to a file that still exists.
Otherwise it should revert to your User's Documents folder...
If all else fails close Sketchup and try running 'regedit' [assuming you are confident in your abilities not to screw it up!] and do as follows:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp8\File Locations
and edit the keys
ComponentBrowser ComponentBrowser1 ComponentBrowser2
Set their value to nothing [i.e. erase the value] - typically they should sayC:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Components\
or similar...DON'T change the key named '
Component
' unless it's not showing the Preferences path - edit it to be that if it is not - again typically it should sayC:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Components\
or similar...These should all revert to the Preference's preset 'Components' path assuming it exists, as you use the Browser the last opened location is substituted and saved as you exit...

Thanks TIG. The Components folder and Preferences options showed nothing so had to resort to 'regedit'. Sure enough, ComponentBrowser1 was pointing to my Desktop. I cleared the other ComponentBrowser keys as suggested, just in case. Everything works as it should now.
Thanks for giving your time - much appreciated.
