BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@mac1 said: Gm Have you looked at the follow me tool that is part of the SU tool sets. There are also several plugins: pipe along path: tube along path ,or follow me and keep also but follow me should do the job unless you what a rect cross section. It has a tendency to rotate ,so if that is case use follow me and keep. I,ve attached a tutorial Gully (I think) did several years ago that may help you make a decision[attachment=0:km19rhru]<!-- ia0 -->pipe_layout.skp<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:km19rhru] yes thank you i have tried the follow me tool and also the profile builder, i am going to read your link

The space shuttle SSRMT is a side looking synthetic radar operating at c/x band I think, been long time since I read its specs. That is what is used for elevation data in Google Earth. Here is a link with perhaps useful info for you. I did not see date on it however http://biodiversityinformatics.amnh.org/index.php?section_id=31%26amp;content_id=119. If you do a search on Google Erath resolution you can find a link that list most of the sat data they use and the scale and resolution specs. It is my understanding both the PRO and free versions have the same resolution.

Well I have to admit that I've never seen such a mess in a model. A ton of hidden nested geometry hundreds meters distant, the visible part of the model is in orbit as well, a bunch of hidden section planes, tens of scenes. etc. etc. Now it should work anyway. Hello Mac1, The angles will be smooth much like a sine wave so kinking would not be an issue. Yes it is a flexible track that allows to you bend the shape you would like within a certain maximum radius.

Tig, Thanks for the thoughts/ideas. I do not think cad orgin issue is at fault here, but I will look closer to be sure. I will try to get the file to a reasonable size and give you the link. I am on a deadline at the moment so I will not have time to do it until tomorrow. Thanks for your help. paul

That would be one way to do it. I guess I would just Expand the nested components instead. [image: cvYY_Screenshot-1_23_20144_12_54AM.png] That way you'd see both the nested components and the lower level components. [image: JMls_Screenshot-1_23_20144_13_56AM.png]

Sorry I had this in the wrong Forum. Would have been nice to know it was moved though. Anyways, I (sort of) fixed the problem for anyone else who has this same issue. First I went through all my plugins and compared the numbers beside them. I did this by going right in my C > Programs ...> Sketchup folders. Then I compared those numbers to the numbers of the updated plugins posted in these forums. Example: [image: f8Yg_PluginNumbers.jpg] Since none of those numbers matched, I decided to go through each of those plugin folders to see if what they had inside matched. Since they did, I removed all the lower numbered folders, and decided to remove ALL of the plugins by Fredo and start over fresh, with the latest ones. However, that still wouldn't let me open Sketchup without it crashing. So, I removed all the folders I needed (Plugins, Components...etc) and placed those on my desktop.(Drag and drop) I then uninstalled Sketchup and did a fresh install. I put all the plugins that I use from the plugins folder on my desktop into the new plugins folder I just installed. (Copy / Paste) and did the same with all the components I made and had in the (desktop) components folder. I also checked all the other folders that I had to make sure nothing was missing. Whoola! It worked! I was finally able to open Sketchup without a bugsplat. Only issue I have now is, I can't seem to find my toolbars that go to some of the plugins. I also don't see some of them listed under Plugins, tools, Window and View Toolbars menu. I am wondering if, when I moved them to my desktop, if the .rs and other .r files that I now see in their respective folders, need to be taken out of the folder and just listed under the folders? I also can't load some of them, that I know are in there. So, I missed something somewhere. [image: GREE_ErrorLoading.jpg] Without having to reinstall all those plugins,(that actually still exist in my plugins folder) is there a step I missed? I don't want to mess things up any more than they are, and since I'm not a coder, I don't know what belongs inside the folder, and what should be outside of the folder. I know I copied my original folder contents exactly like they were, so I'm stumped. If I have to, I'll reinstall them, but I'm afraid I might not remove all of what needs to be removed properly. Thanks for any help!

@mitcorb said: Hi, Mistro: I looked around and found an older thread in this link: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/sketchupissues/gN4yhIK3tGY Is it indeed your graphic card settings? Thanks mitcorb! It's funny because I found that same thread earlier and remembered I never set my graphic card settings after my last reformat. But still not sure if that is the cause because I reformatted months ago and did many Sketchup projects since with no problem. But then again, I recently did a windows update so maybe something got reset? When I went in the Nvidia control panel it was on "let the 3D application decide". So I set it to high quality instead so applications will use the card settings and Sketchup is running more smoothly. If it happens again, I will report it here.

Just got informed by mail about your response- the thread is almost two yrs old But thanks for your workflow- actually it would be nice if it wouldn't disappear somewhere as it is a good how-to. There are some more ways to handle larger scenes or objects with high poly count: using layers using ghost-components plugin But loading / replacing components from single files is definitely good- building up some kind of library for future use is surely beneficial.
