There are some plugins to make roofs. Of course doing it manually will give you more control but then a plugin might make your life easier. Instant Roof http://www.valiarchitects.com/sketchup_scripts/instant-roof 1001bit Tools (there is a free and pro version) https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/1001bit-tools-freeware These are the 2 that comes to mind for me. There's probably more solutions.

Sorry for not responding sooner. In this particular case, it turned out that I had to go to the Control Panel and uninstall it as a program. I had sent the message because I could not find the plugin in the Plugins folder and though maybe I was missing something. I always appreciate a response.

You guys are great. Thanks everyone, seriously. Yea, I know about changing colors in the Style menù, but not every object in the 3D-2D view is all black, sometimes there are some primary colors. So I have to put them on AI...

Look for TIG's Split Donut in the Sketchucation Plugin Store. It would draw in the needed miter lines. I don't know of a faster way to split the parts out, though. Having them as components you drag in as needed is probably the best way. As for using your cutlist to get prices, you could do that pretty easily in Excel or another spreadsheet program. Since the cutlist always has the same format, you could have a sort of template file you put the CSV file into.

@liroi said: Installed different versions and still working area as in graph paper. how to fix? In menu Window > Preferences > OpenGL > disable 'Use hardware acceleration' and restart SketchUp. If displaying the model is better, then update your graphics card driver to (better) support OpenGL. Enable 'Use hardware acceleration' again and restart SketchUp again and continue happy modeling.

Thanks. I went ahead and hid the top 'offending' surface of the trusses and this seems to work as suggested in the linked info. I like the idea of creating a layer and then turning it off and on in the scenes as needed. All good and thanks again for the help.

Welcome to SCF. So first of all, none of it is real. SketchUp isn't attempting to perfectly recreate things like transparency. On the other hand, because you would be looking through the blue cylinder twice to see that part of the yellow one, the idea of making the blue more dense in that area makes sense. You might be able to improve the appearance by changing the transparency quality setting under the Edit tab for Styles. You might also find that changing OpenGL settings has an impact. If you are really concerned about creating an accurate representation of the transparency, you should be running your model through a rendering application. They are designed to handle that sort of thing.

Hi Chris, Thanks a lot for your explanation. I'm suffering the same problem with a project I'm working on currently. I just have a couple of questions. About how long does it usually take your model to get this 2D file? About how big are your models? I mean, MB and edges, faces, components? Because in another forum, or post or whatever it's called, someone from Sketchucation explained that it has a lot to do with the time it takes. Thanks again for you information and I hope you could find the time to answer my questions. (Sorry for my English) Best wishes

Easy mistake: easy fix. Select All Scale Start to scale up in Z [blue] direction. Type -1 +<enter> It should now get fixed to be correctly oriented ? Change your view to see it so that Z [solid=blue] is 'up' !

You'll have to redraw the path and add more segments. If the path is being drawn with the Arc tool, you can change the number of segments before you start drawing it. If you are drawing that path some other way, you'll have to use a different method to set the number of segments. As for the vertices, you can that your curved path is made up of a series of line segments. Where they meet there's a vertex. This is a place where you extrusion changes direction so the profile won't be exactly the same size as the rest of the rail. Think about in reality, take a rod and cut an angled end for a miter. The face will be larger than if you cut square across. If you've drawn the rail so it is the same diameter as the hole in the bracket, the rail will be slightly wider at the vertices. It is entirely possible to make your model with high precision but you might want to consider the application for the model. If the audience for whom you are making this drawing is only going to look at the overall bar, these little details you're working on won't show. Maybe there's not much point in spending a lot of time on this foot rail. Will what you've drawn convey the needed information? Ifso, move on to some other part of the drawing. The bracket is probably going to be an off-the-shelf thing and the rail will be stock to fit. Unless you need a manufacturing drawing for the bracket and the rail, you might want to say it's close enough.

Try clearing the cache of internet explorer and make sure you have the most up to date version and that it isn't blocked. It doesn't matter what browser you use normally, SU uses IE to access the internet.

I have a copy of Draftsight and use it on occasion along with AutoCAD. Very similar feel and functions. I can transfer .dwg drawing files both ways and have not found any significant degradation in data. I have found it very useful if someone sends me an Acad file saved in a newer version than mine. What my Acad will not open, Draftsight will. To answer Ands43 I agree with JGA, from experience that you can import and re-use your title blocks from Acad. There is another free 2D program, DoubleCad XT5 which is a product from IMSI. It has two big brothers, TurboCAD LTE 6 and TurboCAD LTE Pro 6 which have a low cost, but function very much like Acad LT. DC has a builtin opening screen with many size drawing templates. Both work well with Sketchup
