In menu Window > Preferences > OpenGL > disable 'Use hardware acceleration' and restart SketchUp.
If displaying the model is better, then update your graphics card driver to (better) support OpenGL. Enable 'Use hardware acceleration' again and restart SketchUp again and continue happy modeling.
