BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@hellnbak said: No Dave, I'm not saying that purging is a replacement for ensuring that your hardware is up to the task. All I'm saying is that when I'm working on a model and the textures start disappearing when I move or orbit it, or movement gets sluggish, even if I have changed nothing in the model and have done nothing since the last purge but move the model around a lot, purging does alleviate the problem. Not permanently, but certainly long enuf for me to get on with my work. yeah that's happening to me too! ditto

Unless the components are not that big, I doubt is anything wrong with any of them ! Sketchup is not a big performance eater (it works only on one cpu and not more than 3gb ram) .Sketchup is also known for his slowness regarding copying big stuff ( http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=47739 ) . There are some kind of performance tests here( http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=20076 ). I don't exactly know how accurate they might be ! Hope you can figure it out somehow !

Its part of information theroy. Have you ever heard of Shannons. Becuase of coding and the confusion of symbols vs bits the community stated to note a different. You don't known what the probability of occurrence is but information on a particular guess is related to 1/p which means an occurrence happening that has low probability carries much more information than one with high probability and if you know that that one can structure the guess to max the information aka entropry and minimize the number of guesses one has to make. Therefore max entropy guess in general , binary search for a specific cases. Actually you are not correct. Only in the case all the probabilities are equal and is the reason I always use the general case.

Coplanar things only intersect if "intersect selected" is chosen. You cannot (obviously) select all inside the group context AND outside of it. Try with this file (created in version 6 where "auto intersect" was not introduced). Select all and perform an intersect with model. Nothing happens. Now select all and intersect with selected: it will intersect the two rectangles. intersect.skp

While all this info is well and good, and much appreciated, the thing is, I've done hundreds of mirror reverse components (at least), all done exactly the same way, and this is the first time this problem has reared it's ugly head. If it was something I had tried for the first time or if I had done something even a little different, that might explain it. But by now doing this is second nature to me, so all of the possible explanations offered up simply (IMO) do not apply. There's nothing different about this simple and very basic model that should or could explain that accursed white line down the middle of the steering wheel horn. But I've put this behind me, and until it happens again I'll just add it to the ever-increasing list of weird things that happen in SU that you just have to live with

@snicolo said: Workaround: If you do not pre-select the face when doing the offset the crash does not happens. It is a known crash and hopefully we will address it soon. Good advice, however I have always preselected the face (habit) and as far as I can recall, SU never crashed before like this, until recently. Also, lately, I've had 3+ "Splat-less" crashes just selecting other tools, last 2 were "Joint-push-pull". In that case, I opened 2 SU sessions, copied the "problem" comp over, and it worked OK in session 2. Copied back the edited comp and session 1 was normal since, even with JPP. Again, this crashing seems more prevalent when my models get well over 200,000 lines, but I also have a few very stable 500K+ models. And as I said before, it seems more prevalent since I installed Simfonia, but I haven't used SAT for several weeks, and never in those "splat-less" models.

@trogluddite said: The classic example of course, is coming across an item in a menu with a name you've never seen before. "Oooh, it's in the same menu as the tools I use loads, could be a useful time-saver." - clicks help file... "Discombobulationator - use this tool for discombobulationating." Thanks a bunch! (Corel in particular seem good at this trick). Years ago, before I discovered SU, I picked up a little freebee drafting app from TUCOWS. It seemed simple enough and was aimed at drawing flow charts, which I needed at the time. One of the first things I did was click on HELP, then "Documentation". Here is a short extract as I remember it........ Drawing Tools. LINE Use this tool to draw lines CIRCLE Use this tool to draw circles BOX Use this tool to draw boxes You get the gist.... Then at the bottom of HELP was the "On-line website Help file" So I clicked on it......... It opened a page that was IDENTICAL to the Help documentation. I guess my first clue should have been the web address..... ending in .RU It was pretty good at drawing flow charts, but a bitch to edit anything, especially text. Scrappo after 3 hours of frustration.

That answers my question...thanks so much. I like to export at hi res, like 8000 wide, so it makes sense that the lines are so light.

Huh? Could you make your question more clear? The transition from Google to Trimble should have been seamless as far as licenses were concerned.

Oh well, it's back now, and all is right with the world (except for maybe a couple of things -- the economy, congress, the environment......) Thanks much

If I might make a suggestion - if you would try to include a more accurate description of your problem or question in the subject of your post, it will be easier for others to find in the future should they have a similar situation. Plus, it will increase your chances that someone with expertise in the area you are having a problem with will notice the post and maybe provide the help you need. For instance, rather than simply calling it "Frustration" why not "Need tutorial on making SciFi Buildings" or something along those lines.
