BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

I removed some geo to give better view. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hk4wjofwv3fzuzk/Backup_1.skb Don't worry this.. this method would had also worked. However I ended up doing it all by scratch.

If the hidden lines are Coplanar and are not therefore required for face retention you can remove them using a tool like tt's CleanUp. Then they don't export as they don't exist. BUT if a hidden line is needed by the faces then moving them onto their own layer [ON/OFF] in the SKP lets you see them in the CAD version on a separate ON/OFF layer... BUT if they are needed by faces they'll be replicated in the faces' layer too ? So if your SKP contains unneeded hidden lines you can remove them in the SKP and export to CAD. BUT if your SKP's faces need those hidden lines, then even moving them onto their own OFF layer in the SKP will not prevent them from getting duplicated on the face's layer in the CAD version ! Just because a line is hidden it doesn't mean it is not needed ! If you give a clear outline of your workflow, intentions, hopes and aspirations we might advise further...

what's the name of the plugin that analyzes your model for heavy components? Found it... Goldilocks. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31881 couldn't find it in the pluginstore.

Tell me about it... Look what's just cropped up with users of v2014 who include a' in their Windows User name... their Plugins won't load... OR v2014 Windows Users who manage to setup an accented-name that is not UTF8 encoded [unexpectedly surprisingly easy!], bringing us all back to the pre-v2014 days of accented-user-names dismally failing when accessing FILE/TEMP etc... it can be fixed in v2014 by considerable [unexpected] convoluted hoop-jumping by plugins-authors, who now need to avoid an issue that Ruby2.0 was mean to circumvent - AND NOT MAKE WORSE [FFS]!

Yeah you can turn my model into pseudo-quads with Quad face tools, but that's what they are: "pseudo", I guess. I like my answer as far as SU is concerned. [image: 2T5h_ScreenShot2014-03-30at10.50.15AM.png]

@miikka1978 said: Could you specify the page where it starts? Sure, the article is "10 Steps to 3D printing your Sketchup Model in Full Color" on p. 13, and the texturing portion starts on p. 16. In the article, I show how to manually create a texture map and apply it to an object. For more info on how to edit the texture map in Photoshop, there is a good tutorial here: Use Image Editing Software Inside SketchUp. In my Catchup tutorial, the unwrapping and mapping is done manually. There are plugins that may make the task faster like SketchUV and Fredo's ThruPaint, but I have not used them myself.

@box said: Have a read here. http://sketchucation.com/resources/tutorials/37-beginner/315-edges-bleeding-through-geometry Thanks for that. It's a problem I run into continually relative to a particular product I have to draw in many variations (drum shades for a retail client) so a workaround is very much appreciated. If it's any consolation the problem is more apparent in Rhino than in SketchUp. Not sure why.

I'm having the same issue when i use the fbx exporter, all object/group/component pivots get default to the origin. I've seach quite a bit and havent found a way within sketchup, to keep pivot position for an fbx export. Havent try the glue modifier in max yet. As the OP i would prefer a solution within sketchup. The collada exporter seems to be ok with pivot but has quite a few other issue when importing into a game engine like outerra. So i really need the fbx exporter to work.

@box said: I think he wants a shortcut for the toolbar not the tool. Well, he can't have it ! Toolbar states are not shortcut-able. He could write a script to toggle the toolbar on/off and then shortcut to that script's entry in a menu... But he needs to find the toolbar to do that... There are a few better methods for v2014, but it's still not easy...

I think the only way is to make custom toolbars with the needed tools from the large toolset: (use Ctrl to move a copy!) [screenr:1efh5uvx]0s1N[/screenr:1efh5uvx]

'salright. Personally I find it amazingly annoying to work in Parallel Projection. Normal humans don't see that way. Why would we draw that way if we don't have to? I would suggest if you need that kind of views, you wait until you're ready to export the images and set up scenes as needed.
