BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

It was noticed earlier (maybe version 13) that if you place a custom material folder with the same name as a SU default folder into your user/materials folder, then SU will only show the default folder. I rename all my custom folders so then the material browser will show both. My browser is full of cladding (the default) and cladding 1 (my cladding folder that I have been adding to for years), roofing and roofing 1 etc. It makes the browser crowded but it works.

Have you changed networks since? I know you travel a bit. Did you open SU2014 somewhere else and now you are opening it in a different network? Or did you change you network settings at all recently?

Merci! Andrew

I never see any ads here that are not sketchup related. I often hear about or see things for the first time in these ads. I would add an exception in your blocker for SketchUcation.

Here is an example of a messed-up solid, and how to create it. Works every time. I'm astonished that such a basic operation would cause a problem. In my experience, if I work an 8-hour day doing complex mechanical assemblies with SU, at least 1 hour is spent fixing solids. Happened again yesterday, with very simple parts: flat plates or angle iron with holes punched through them. Seems as if every other time I move the holes or change their dimensions, the whole thing goes ka-boom and I have to start over. Messed up solid.skp

Thank you. Now just to figure out how to guide the new copies of my plug-ins to the 2014 version of SU. Plug-in of choice and the one I would worry about the most - LightUp. I will check on their forum to make sure I can install a fresh and separate copy on Make 2014 and still maintain my SU8 in it's current state.

@Txusic View the forms with Hidden Geometry ON. You will probably find that the 'good' intersection results from the segmented edges of the two cylinders aligning correctly. If the segmented edges don't align you'll get jagged edges when they intersect - as you might logically expect

Go to Window>Preferences>OpenGL and change the setting for Use hardware acceleration and/or Use fast feedback. You might also check for updates for the GPU driver. Why it got changed is difficult to say.

Search for topics on 'Organic' forms. Here's one with a specialist sub-forum: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=335 The tools needed are things like Artisan, VertextTools, CurviLoft and my Extrusion tools... These are available from the PluginStore and have their own threads too...

Is this for visuals or production? If you're trying to make a seat for a tool I think Dave's process would work great. For fun, you might try an app like this http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?319906-Turn-your-Android-Phone-into-a-3D-scanner-with-this-app on your phone to get the geometry.

It really depends on what you are exporting. I never found a single fit-all solution when porting geometry from one application to another. It depend on what is important for you, model structure, filesize, material and UV mapping. Various application will treat this different depending on their own internal data structure. But I usually start with DAE as it's a newer format, where as OBJ is much older and produse problems if your meshes has more than 32.000 vertices.

Further advice well received. I will also look for the Purge plug in. I saw a post below mine that was griping about SU. Every program has its limits no matter the dollar assigned to it. Frankly after 5 years and the need for simplicity in 3D drawing I think SU has really been a great addition for the amateur world. Especially when Sketucation can come through with pleasant down to earth, straight to detail, advice like what I have just experienced. I did not mean to start anything new here. I merely mean to again (and in another way) thank those people that so enjoy the program that they are willing to offer free advice. Fords are Fords. Fords simply just don't come with Rolls Royce interiors. But, you can still have a nice ride through the countryside while in a Ford!

I can't log into the Warehouse anymore with my main browser (Cyberfox, a 64bit Firefox variant), however, with Chrome it works. I just get a screen with three rotating circles and different symbols, and then the ruby symbol stops rotating and I get redirected to the warehouse without being signed in. With Chrome, the ruby symbol and the right sketchup symbol stop spinning, then I get signed in. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this? Most likely it has nothing to do with add-ons, since I can't sign in in safe mode as well. edit: Solved the problem by deleting cookies.
