BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

My goal is to connect two offset rectangles with the speed and simplicity of using Curviloft - but without a reduction in aspect ratio. Want to avoid the extra step of manually drawing a path between said rectangles.

Following up on this. Apparently in my system turning off antialising of textures made the issue go away. I am laying blame on the graphics card. [image: RvcM_Antialiasing.PNG]

Windows 7, SP1. I didn't have any "critical updates" due, and "Hotfix KB299926" doesn't seem to exist. All searches for this Update come up with "KB2999226" which has an extra "2". I've now been trying to install the latter, but the Windows Updater always hangs during the install. Having to shift my priorities elsewhere for the moment, but will report if/ how this is fixed. A graphics card update may be in order (as you suggested on SU's forum). Thanks.

The cylinders need to be a fixed size as they already exist. It's a matter of finding the ideal diameter where there is equal spacing @ all edges.

I generally use TIG's TIG-Weld plugin to weld edges together to make them easy to select. This other benefits, too, such as when extruding a face with Push/Pull or Follow Me.

Thank you for the answer''jonous''. The problem to me occurs when there are two groups touching each other as then comes to interruptions in exported .dwg file.

Yes, a simple solution. I don't need to create a new texture, just subdivide the surfaces I want to cover, apply the texture to each section and flip the texture on each section as needed. Should have thought of that. Thank you Dave and Pbacot. I've been working with Sketchup for several years for hobby woodworking and it's nice to know I can get help like this.

Thanks again for the Ideas. Turned out to be the graphic cards driver. It was up to date, but the current driver somehow created a problem with su2017. The previous driver also had the same problem, so we had to roll the driver back two releases. Probably not coincidentally, two drivers ago was when I installed "the gforce experience" application that is designed to prompt you when new drivers are available so you can stay current with the actual manufactures latest and greatest. I actually thought it would be better to let the manufacture prompt me rather than let windows update handle when and what gets updated. I have had two instances with this gtx1080 gpu in the recent past where windows has changed the driver for me and it has caused problems so I was trying to be smart by going to the gforce experience. I guess i will just let windows do its thing and put the fires out after. p

Hide the box temporarily. Right click on the origin and choose Reset. Then unhide the cube and move it so it's corner is at the origin where you want it. Then use File>Save as template. Make a new template and discard the old one.

my.sketchup.com runs in the browser... you need a trimble account, and pretty sure you can send someone a link. i don't think you can protect the files though (yet) - so someone could save your work locally - maybe not an issue for you.

@charms2601 said: I've just purchased some .skm texture files and can find nothing on how to import them into my texture library on a mac.....I know I'm probably just a newbie who's overlooking the obvious, but any help would be so appreciated.... You need to add them as a collection then save the collection so SketchUp can load them each time it starts. There's a button in the Materials Browser that allows you to Add or Open as collection.

You misuse the term 'active' - only one section-plane can be 'active' in any given context. Having the nested section-plane allows you to cut what's inside its context [when it is active]. Another section-plane outside of that group's context will cut everything in its own context, including the group which has the nested section-plane. You need to have both section-planes active to hide the loose geometry that is not inside of the group. Here's some screenshot showing it - in the original there two active section cuts and the bigger cut is looking towards the loose geometry, so it is visible - because it's outside of the group it's bound to be seen. The second shot shows the section cut in the opposite direction this time the loose stuff is not seen. Trying to do this with section-cuts alone is going to be very convoluted... If you want to hide that loose stuff I suggest you use the section-cuts as you have made them, but put that loose stuff on its own layer - which you then switch off in that scene - see the third screen-shot...
