Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

my.sketchup.com runs in the browser... you need a trimble account, and pretty sure you can send someone a link. i don't think you can protect the files though (yet) - so someone could save your work locally - maybe not an issue for you.

You need to add them as a collection then save the collection so SketchUp can load them each time it starts. There's a button in the Materials Browser that allows you to Add or Open as collection.

You misuse the term 'active' - only one section-plane can be 'active' in any given context. Having the nested section-plane allows you to cut what's inside its context [when it is active]. Another section-plane outside of that group's context will cut everything in its own context, including the group which has the nested section-plane. You need to have both section-planes active to hide the loose geometry that is not inside of the group. Here's some screenshot showing it - in the original there two active section cuts and the bigger cut is looking towards the loose geometry, so it is visible - because it's outside of the group it's bound to be seen. The second shot shows the section cut in the opposite direction this time the loose stuff is not seen. Trying to do this with section-cuts alone is going to be very convoluted... If you want to hide that loose stuff I suggest you use the section-cuts as you have made them, but put that loose stuff on its own layer - which you then switch off in that scene - see the third screen-shot... Did you install fresh copies of the various plugins and extensions or did you copy them from a previous install? If you did the latter, you shouldn't have. Install fresh copies. Maintenance releases don't overwrite things like toolbar locations so don't worry about installing the new release of 2017. Just do it. Major version releases install as a separate program so you have to set up toolbars and such almost as if you never installed SketchUp before.

The shadows are missing because the foreground aerial image is in the way. Note the settings in the two screen shots. I turned off the foreground image in the second one and the shadows show just fine. By the way, it has nothing to do with the background image. I just made the background image lighter in the first to make it easier to see where shadows are being cast. I also turned off shadows on ground. [image: xNJl_TechHelpFile.png]

It has already been reported... Unfortunately 'they' changed the way that Extensions are 'switchable' in the newest versions of SketchUp - we have yet to get a reasonable workaround... At the moment the best we can suggest is that you set up a collection of Extensions that you might have normally loading - set all of those 'active'. Then note their 'loader' RB files - from their description available in the SCF Extensions Manager - then if you use the SCF Plugins Manager - you can enable/disable/load-per-session those loader RB files [aka Plugins] - using 'Sets' as desired... When you restart SketchUp any disabled Plugin will NOT load its Extension - but any enabled Plugin should activate its Extension - IF that Extension is preset to auto-activate on start up... Depending on how the Extension and its related Toolbar code is configured, then you might need to either reactivate the Extension or relaunch the Toolbar [often both might auto-activate] when SketchUp restarts...

More than likely, you are not running SketchUp 2017 as an administrator. In order to make a directory anywhere under the Program Files folder, you must have admin rights in Windows. In general, storing user documents of any type under Program Files is discouraged by Microsoft. We finally corrected where SketchUp reads and writes content files (like materials) in SketchUp 2017. If you are going use a custom Materials folder other than the SketchUp 2017 default, I would suggest placing it under your Documents folder where you have read and write rights, even if not running as an administrator. Hope that helps, Tyler

Opens more quickly than previous versions and seems to handle hi-poly a bit better. That's just an impression tho.

I solve the mystery! Thea studio itself was set to run in compatibility mode. So, when I changed that to normal, it works from SU. Thank you both for your helping me clean my mess.

@harnstein said: Except for some specific plugins in most cases you can probably just copy the "master" plugins folder over to the two "slaves" folders which will at least save extra searching time. Won't work for some plugins related to third folders data though. And some plugins store local information (settings, custom data) you wouldn't have access to from the two "slaves" computers. never copy extensions any longer, that's asking for trouble Rather use the extension warehouse features, or the sketchUcation plugin manager, or Smustard's "My Plugins" or a combination of these. Also take a look at Rich O'Brien's CloudUp...

Hello Dave R The SketchUp 2017 installation should automatically update the "Dynamic Components" plugin, in all versions of Sketchup installed on the computer. This would avoid this kind of very unpleasant message. Here is the video solution with a little ambient music: https://youtu.be/QRt0ih_GEkM

Thanks for the thought, but that is not the case here. It happens on both my setups, one which runs two monitors, and one that is a single.

in connection with an integrated/shared (= lame) intel HD series graphics subsystem - which btw was never made nor thought to use with an OpenGL-based 3D modeler - a driver version higher than 10.18.10.4061 needs to be installed to run SU 2017, otherwise the required OpenGL functionality (as e.g. advanced transparency) is not available or faulty. You may want check if your system is compatible with the new SketchUp 2017 CheckUp tool. Check for the latest driver too by visiting the Dell support webpages resp. running the Dell System Detect support application. If no recent version avail you may also want to check if the recent orig. driver form intel can be installed... which often fails because of mods concerning power saving resp. heat emission made by the notebook maker.

@juju said: @andysvision said: @juju said: @andysvision said: C'mon at least tell me any tip how to import only the 3d model without taking match memory, the last time i did only this furniture went to a 1GB file.... show me some good tips how to lower the meshes and polys or how to import the proper manner ... SketchUp doesn't do well with high polygon count meshes. It's best to optimize the model / mesh before bringing it into SketchUp. Take a look at Mootools as a starting point. Keep in mind that some rendering apps is able to reference external meshes and replace it in the renders from SketchUp. very expensive software this ones.... any other option? With a bit of fiddling you could probably do much of the same with Blender. Also take a look at Meshlab. You'll probably have the best results from Mootools though, maybe they have a Black Friday deal coming up? I know a while ago they had it available at a discounted rate as well... Hint: first download a trial version, sometimes you'll receive an email offering you the software at a special price. In the end it boils down to how often you do this and what your time is worth to you. Many thanks my friend!

Thanks Dave for your reply, There is not any imported 3D object. The file saves ok but displays the error. I did a saved as, under a new file and still got the same error. I decided to just ignore the error and gave it the weekend too sort its self out. By the power of the unknown ( although MS seem to be updating my machine quite regularly at the moment) I have come back after the weekend and started up my machine and I can not reproduce the error in either file. Many thanks
