BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

It's clear from the various posts that you have many options when adding a roof over these walls. The last poster's suggestion is to ignore the masonry walls and make an orthogonal roof over them with parallel eaves and ridges, but with varying soffit dimensions. If this is acceptable to you then you might have as a simple roof structure and finish as you could. Otherwise if you must have parallel eaves and ridges you must either accept a roof surface that is not in one simple plane, with twisted facets are needed to achieve the form, or a piece of 'flat' roof at the ridge to fill in the inevitable gap between the two single-plane roofs that meet there. In these cases you need to consider the complexity of making the non-conventional roof structure and its finishes. If parallel eaves and ridges are not a must, but single plane roof for each section are still preferable, then you need to decide it you are to slope the various ridges or the various eaves. The former is probably the more conventional structurally - it's effectively a very shallow hip construction with the normally horizontal ridge-board becoming in effect a sloping hip-tree - the roofing material is easily trimmed and covered by the ridge capping: otherwise sloping the eaves means non-conventional sloping wall-plates, odd-walling etc, and probably ugly weirdness at the lower edges of the roof, where material at the eaves would need cutting and finishing oddly - somewhat like a shallow valley gutter...

To bad for me. I know I don't use sketchup in a totally "normal" way.. I's very important for my project to go from a very large country view to very detail view... I wonder if there is another 3D soft as easy as Skecthup able to do that kind of things and better in animations... At least with your answer I can stop dreaming and crying and jump to the two files solution I was pushing away... Thank you (so) very much. ++

My mind was feeling dizzy as experienced in the theatre while watchign the shape shifting architecture of Inception and Dr. Strange. it's a very useful (and robust) plugin.. you can model some simple flat shapes and then map them to curved surfaces.. here you can see an example of use.. a simple process to get a shape that would be not so easy and fast without flowify and a couple of oter plugins.. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=397%26amp;t=66269 Thanks a lot again!

The output is taken from a software called Adobe Illustrator. everything created with SketchUp, regardless if further processed with another application, is bound to the license terms agreed by you, transfering to another application for the final, commercially used export is obviously a commercial usage too

Having been through the process of setting up SketchUp on multiple computers, I have a process the seems to streamline it. The first things I do are open SU in the previous version and save the blank template file into a directory I can easily find. Then I make a screenshot of the entire SketchUp screen and save that image in the same directory. Since I use both Mac and Windows, I have a screen shot for each. Next, I install the SCF Extension Store so I can install the bundle from SCF. I also install my extensions from the EW. I've already got my custom styles, materials and local component collections in a directory called SketchUp Assets. I don't put them in the User/AppData or Use/Library/Application Support directories. I open the saved template file in the new version of SketchUp and immediately use File>Save as template... Next, I import as an image the screenshot I made of the old version to use as a guide for placing toolbars and creating the custom toolbars on the PC side. Then I make the toolbars and place the ones I want displayed. Finally, in Preferences, I point SketchUp to the appropriate folders in the SketchUp Assets directory. That Assets directory, the screenshot and the template file can all be copied to a memory stick or to a network drive.

@alexschreyer said: That model looks good. Have you tried their PBR rendering option (somewhere in the editor)? I find it makes materials more shiny and metallic, which should work well in your case. I took a little simpler model and started trying to learn how to produce a more metallic look to the metal frames in my models. Here is a sample DCW Top Brush Again, your feedback on the process is welcome.

Tried those settings and it did not have any affect on the problem. I am talking to Sketchfab as it seems the error might be on their side or that SketchUp 2017 is doing something different. The model shows up as empty on the Sketchfab side. If we get a resolution, I will post it here...

Leave the section cut faces in place on the model so the model behind the section cut can be seen, too. Make a scene for each section cut view. To show those views, you can easily place the scenes as viewports next to each other in LayOut. As for something more structured, that part is up to you. You just have to develop a structured work flow.
