    BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

    Looks typical of a graphics card issue. Try updating the drivers. Radeon cards and their drivers are well-known for their inadequate support of OpenGL. With previous versions of SketchUp this could be mitigated by turning off Hardware Acceleration and using CPU or software rendering. With SU2017 having a graphics card that is up to the job is critical because there is no CPU or software rendering.

    well Dave R , once happy that I was able to recover my old versions functionality , I beated my fear ,... and installed the 2017 version again , ... AND now , everything ( all my old versions + 2017) is working fine . just to let you know . Thanks

    Using large coordinates is a nightmare in most of the 3d programs and SketchUp is no exception. Clipping issues, z-fighting issues guaranteed. The only solution (that I know of) is to use a fixed translation (just write it down somewhere) for your project. Maybe your GIS app can do it for you already when exporting? Otherwise you have to do it in SketchUp yourself. Most of the time I just load the new parts in a separate SketchUp file, do the translation and then copy past it into the main file. edit: typo

    Hello I found the raison on the SU PODIUM website ( rendering plugin ) " This is s known (annoying) bug. Don't worry nothing's lost, you just need to rename the skb to skp. It happens when you save when the oopr is opened. Sketchup will only save backup file. To save correctly, close the oopr before saving. " It's working for me now. I hope to help you.

    It's a resort in Rhode Island called Ocean House http://www.oceanhouseri.com I saw it some where on the internet and had one of those " I can model that" moments years ago.     Yep, we've all been there and it is painful. Usually this happens with imports from AutoCAD. I usually run ThomThom's Flatten script in his Architect Tools set, just to make sure everything is on Z=0. Then I use S4U's Make Face script. Most of the time this works, but you might need to find little unconnected gaps, in this case, try ThomThom's Edge Tools.

    thanks for the replies, I dug a little deeper and found out about the time thing and this link http://www.mediafire.com/file/brjzmnqzbcv38fp/RichSectionv0.5.8FULLByDimitri.zip: where a modified plugin can be found. Works in SU16 and seems pretty good although you can only have one material for the section cut. Trimble/Sketchup so needs to address this issue with sections in my view.

    After erasing the weird 'rod' geometry... I guess the left-over piece of text includes an empty string or perhaps just a space ? Use the Outliner to open that Group in edit-mode. Edit > Select All. Entity Info now shows one piece of text. Press <delete>. That text is now gone. The now empty Group is also gone... Resolved.

    This is only true if you pick a corner of the bounding box. It defaults to uniform. Picking any other handle scales against its opposite point, unless you hold shift.
