Do you have any transparency on the trees? If you do, turn it off and that might help. Atlernatively, you don't have that many trees; could you swap them for low-poly 3D?

I see what you mean, TIG. I guess I would want the DC to operate like this: Scale in the X only to a user defined length. A post would be located at the beginning and end of Len X [would like to create an option to toggle either 'post to start' or post to end']. Intermediate posts would be spaced at a maximum of 2700. Maybe in Component Options the user inputs number of spacings which shows the spacing dimension....

I'm just starting to learn Sketchup and I utilized it also for a photo match made for After effect (but I had this export plugin for After Effects): Now I'd like just to import a Photo Match data in Maya... and I hope you have a solution! Many Thanks!

Hi Bob, Your last post is really confusing, at least to me, after all the good replies plus a lot of extra's you got. Back to the original: @bob-designer said: The component is named correctly in Outliner list. The problem is that it is named twice (repeated) on the same line, with the < > marks also repeated correctly. How do I correct this and how do I keep it from happening again?..... The questions are clear. a) You may at some point have copied the < > manually. It's hard to tell afterwards. Anyway, at least they shouldn't be on the same line. The first <> is plain text, Could be %$#@<**) etc. The second <> indicates a component definition within it. b) You can correct any text in name, definition and description later by just retyping at the correct location. For instance in the 'Entity Info' dialog. Or in the components browser when editing the properties. c) You can keep this from happening again by filling in proper text at in the right fields at the time of creating the components (and groups). Confusion starts by SU itself. SU does NOT show the right field text in the 'Create Component' dialog box. Here 'Name' should be read as 'Definition Name'. But even this has been said before, I think by Gaieus. I hope one day the programmers will correct this.

If the lines are clear enough, you might run the scanned images through an application such as WinTopo to create vector lines. I believe PhotoShop could also do that. Then you could import the vector lines into SketchUp and have most of that work done. To import the vector lines, you'll want SU8 Pro or you could try one of several plugins for importing DXF files into SU. Look at the list of plugins for that.

Are the DWG lines in a group or component? If so, either explode the group or component or cut or copy the desired lines out of the group/component and paste them in place on the rectangle. You may also need to select everything and run an Intersect operation. Posting your model or at the least a screen grab would be a big help.

I use this method frequently to help keep file size down. Here are a few hints for you. [image: 5890226823_22c8458c07_z.jpg] In this image I have drawn a gear made up of smaller segments. In the background you can see the before hiding. In the center I've hidden the edges but you can still see the back face color bleeding through because the vertical faces are still there. In the foreground, you can see that I've deleted the internal faces of the segments and so there's no bleed through. Also, these segments are components so hiding the edges on one hides them on all. [image: 5190512797_5e0876427d_z.jpg] In this closeup view of the top of a turned post, notice the hidden radial seam edges intersect the circular edge at the midpoint of the edge segments. This results in coplanar surfaces on either side of the seam line. The benefit to this is that there'll be no shading difference at the seam. Play with dividing a simple cylinder at the midpoint of edge segments and also at vertices. Look at how the shading occurs. [image: 5190404813_6dcffb137d_z.jpg] This shows the entire turned post. As you can see, it is made of eight instances of the same component. Neighboring pairs are mirror images of each other. [image: 4284864786_6e320fc9e7_z.jpg?zz=1] These bin pulls were created using this method of mirrored halves. I used the idea of the coplanar faces along the center line. The faces don't have to be very wide to make this work. [image: 4782683811_1fc61907aa_z.jpg] This applique uses the exact same method. [image: 5018580153_82e977bd99_z.jpg] As does this chair seat. And in this case, with the wood grain texture ends up with a book matched appearance.
