Well there you go. If I had of seen that thread earlier then I wouldnt have been so surprised about 14.7 million edges. (I am trying to double that atm though ) I'm going to try out the Susan challenge and see what I get as well. I'm still quite surprised though as the card that is running in that machine that I used for this file is actually pretty crap.

Quite true. As bmike and a couple others have said, SU is essentially using this model already. It's a bit like if someone would have told Kahn he should sell his product for $2 instead of $50 when others were selling for $750. -Brodie

Back Edges only works with vector lines. It doesn't work with raster lines which is what all the sketchy line styles are. So you're out of luck on that one. You could get different line colors if you apply materials (colors) to different lines but that won't be a style setting so you'll have to do it for each model.

Is there anything unique about the mouse, such as the brand name, that we should know? Otherwise, first step is to open the case, get a cotton swab with alcohol and clean the grunge out of the gears. If this is not the problem, then get the documentation on the mouse either online or out of the closet. Is it a cabled, or wireless mouse? Does it use a ball for tracking, or an infrared sensor?

RESOLVED! I received my licensing info only after contacting Google SU via the licensing issues link on the SU website. But, I never got the automated version (wasn't in my spam folder, either).

Naturally, you can create 3D with SketchUp...and then use rendering software to produce a photoreal effect or add reflective and lighting effects. Personally however, if I was considering software simply to produce 3D icons, I'd probably use RealDraw. It's vector based, just like SU...but it's much easier to produce a wide range of graphic effects right out of the box. That is possible, but not really doable with a Dynamic component. Maybe some of those features to a more simple level. But anything very detailed would be complex to model into a DC. BUT, feel free to learn how to make DC's and try it yourself. I bet you could get some good results with enough time and effort. More likely though, what you want would be much easier to make with a full ruby script. Its one I've started a few times and never quite found the time to finish. One day though... Or you can use this: http://xfrog.com/ It makes files that are virtually impossible to use in SketchUp because they are so big. But if you want truly realistic, its your best bet. And get Maya to go along with it for rendering and model management. Vue would also be a good option. http://www.e-onsoftware.com/

Thought here: Orginator created cenetr line for the sections using the arc tool and then used either follow me and keep or shape bender plugin to add the " thickness" along the selected ref line either edge or center ref. BTW using ThomThom's clean up tool helps quite a bite when working the ref model you cited. BTW2 Using the arc tool out in " free space" can be difficult because it may want to inference where you don't ant it to. Drawing some plananr ref surface like a triangle some times helps me. Update 11-14-2011 Firther review seems to indicate this is from a cad file. It is almost impossible to work with it in SU because of the very dense geometry and no layer or components to speak except at the top level The arc like sections are variable and will have to be modeled with a plugin that is " adaptive" such as TIGs extrude tool set

Its pretty much about finding an image with the correct lighting for the snow. After that its a combination of cloning and distorting, copying parts around the image and blending them together. But if you dont have the correct lighting it will become very obvious very quickly. What you need to do is find images that have the same colour sky as the sky in the render. This way,not only will you have the correct lighting, but also the correct radiosity colour on your inserted elements.

@unknownuser said: for curves and odd shapes, i'd suggest these two plugins by fredo curviloft for creating complex meshes: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=28586 and bezier spline for complex curves: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=13563 that said, those are a couple of the more powerful plugins which will help generate shapes that are nearly impossible to make without them… some of the more useful plugins though are the simple little ones that just make certain drawing processes quicker/easier.. such as the mirror plugin by TIG: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=31410 ..and many more.. basically, your best bet would be to post an example of something you try that takes a while to do in sketchup and see if anyone can suggest a plugin to speed it up.. in other words, find/use plugins that adapt to your style instead of just installing plugins then you adapting to them.. Thanks a lot!!! I'll try to find some old models where I need some modelling help... Thanks again for the help.

Look like a over loaded gray out condition of use of memory, alot of features disapper when memory hits limits Make two copy skeckup 8 one with no plugins (in plugin folder) for the layout, and the other (with plugins) for editing objects. (to layout) Start the object sketchup first, Then open layout sketchup. Do your work: When done close layout sketchup first, Then close object sketchup last also A Fix for some startup Sketchup splats: Clean out the reg of google sketchup 8 toolbars useing registry editor and wordpad then open only the plugins you need. You may had a 1000 listed witch loads to ram memory evey time it loads often cause sketchup to splat. (hint) keep a copy of of google sketchup 8 reg save to fix problems later

Hi Rich Thank you very much for your advice to try Curiloft - Fredo is a genius. I have tried to find a text user manual for Curviloft without avail as I am learning to use the plugin from various video samle tutorials which are two fast for me. Do you know if a pdf manual exists even if it for earlier versions of the plugin. Also is it possuble to enlarge the tool bar - I have my tool bar setting on Large Toolbar but I could do with it being larger. Many thanks for your prompt resonse to my initial topic & I am sure I will get a great deal of help & information from SketchuCation. Regards Old Swinger
