@luisfernando said: Wow! I don´t understand why the hell sketchup does that. I mean, it creates a half face in one layer, and the another half in another. There´s no sense. Thanks a lot guys, mainly Thom for the quick and eficient answers. (Dave too). Actually Sketchup doesn't do that, you did. Always draw on layer 0. Once a layer is selected, all lines and faces created are on that layer. In this case you must have selected the layers or copied something from another file set to those layers.

Thanks for your answers! @Gaieus I'm not sure, if i understand what you are saying... I have positioned the texture before i made the group (which is nested in two other groups) and after. But nothing helped. I have moved the faces now to a separated new group one level higher and then back into the group and it's working now. Or maybe a restart of sketchup has helped... i'm not sure. I have noticed this behavior from time to time, but not always. @Sonder I never apply a texture to a group/component - and i had checked this already, but thanks!

@Pilou,@Gaieus Oups! ->wrong download text file: rectified in first post nice "trouvaille" Pilou (Remembering) @taffgoch said: Simon, Consider how the manufacturer produced the fence. Q: With what did they start? A: A length of "wire," with a constant, repeated sine wave. This should be maintained in a 3D model. Keep all of the sinusoidal segments the same length. Truly, the sine segments along the top of the fence will be curved, but they should be maintained at the same length. I can demonstrate this evening, when I have some modeling time. -Taff http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=29342#p256185 [image: QzUq_GrillagesDeProvence_002.jpg] [image: Y8vp_GrillagesDeProvence_001.jpg] *s

LightUp also pre-loads materials (and maybe components too?). I keep it deactivated until I really want to use it in a model.

Looks like a GC issue... But another possibility is a model that's very very tiny or very very large, or has some geometry miles from the origin, or has some components with geometry miles from its insertion-point [internal origin], or components that are weirdly scaled compared to their original size - the last few being typical with some CAD imported block-components...

Thanks Glenn. After spending more time than it was worth, I came to the conclusion that DC wasn't going to work for me on what had become a fairly complex component. FredoScale's stretch function works very well. Although it couldn't handle stretching the entire component including it's sub-components, if I stretch the outer component, then stretch the inner components (that it couldn't handle) separately, it works fine. Dynamic Components would be so much better if a FredoScale like stretch function were incorporated. In fact, Sketchup might consider incorporating that function as a tool. Regards

Hi Box, Here is what I did. I downloaded file and opened it. I had trouble as I first posted with the component having no component options. I received a comment that I should import it, not open it. So when I tried that, I deleted the component from the screen and imported the file. Yes indeed, I imported the component into itself. Arrgghhh!!!!! So, I am now understanding that DCs must be imported in order for component options to be activated. Is that correct? and thanks for the heads up regarding not pasting a component into itself.

Hi folks. Why not assign these locked objects to a layer. Then, hide this layer before selecting to assure that these locked object are not visible, thus not selectable. Make the layer visible once done. Just ideas.

Frascati, I can't do much in the way of helping with your modeling issue, but offer this humble advice. Do not delete this thread or any of your posts. They will serve you well in the future. They will be reminders of what the true source of your frustrations were and the solution(s) to them. Years ago in the midst of preparing final presentation boards for an architectural class, I realized that I had made a basic layout error causing the previous 40 hours or so of work to be completely useless. I sat at the drafting table looking for something or someone to blame, and could find none. I ripped the board off the table and stomped on it with a mighty fury. An exact replica of my gym shoe was left smack dab in the middle of it. I grabbed a beer out of my dorm fridge and made my way to the top of the "world famous" architectural building on the campus. While sitting atop one of the two massive girders supporting the building, sipping a cold one and looking at the Chicago skyline, I reflected on why I wanted to become an architect along with pondering what foibles and obstacles the architect who designed the building beneath my rear had overcome. I realized that perseverance rather than perfection was going to be my way thru. I literally went back to the drawing board and worked there continuously for about 3 days and nights and finished the work. It turned out quite well. I keep that screwed up "Strathmore" board with shoe print in a flat file in the house, it is a reminder of how close I came to letting my anger destroy what has been a really good life in architecture, and a good life in general.
