It would rule if you could lock some objects which you don't wanna move around or change or anything, that would just sit there and which won't 'select themselves' when you do a basic 'rectangle selection' [top left > bottom right or vice versa].

    Innit?

So, can you do this or?

Yes, select object, right click, "Lock" - Job done.

        Locked 'containers' are locked.
        You can't Move/Scale/Rotate/Delete/Edit etc.

Unlocked 'containers' do not have that restriction.

ALL 'containers' must be 'selectable' - locked and unlocked - so you can select them for changing their status ??

Of you want to write a special 'type' that is 'Fixed' - but editable internally then you need to invent new ways with attributes/observers etc and a whole new bag full of complexity... good luck ๐Ÿ˜„
It'd be possible, but a shortcut for the context-menu's lock/unlock seems a whole lot easier ๐Ÿ˜•

The answer is no. Anything in the current context is always selectable, whether unlocked or locked. Locked groups and components can only be unlocked. Not manipulated in any other way.
I know it can sometimes be very distracting to constantly see these bounding boxes of locked entities when making a window selection. But nothing you can do about that.

Other programs may work with locked and protected layers to exclude selecting anything with these layers assigned to them. But SketchUp uses layers differently.

If you work in a certain editing context, anything outside that context (higher level) is unselectable. Even unlocked entities outside the context can not be selected.

Ah yes, this could be a 'workaround', thanks for the hint

Objects outside the current edit level do not show materials though, so if you model with images and materials, then it won't work for you.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

                Hi folks.

Why not assign these locked objects to a layer.

Then, hide this layer before selecting to assure that these locked object are not visible, thus not selectable.

Make the layer visible once done.

                Just ideas.
