I disagree, It's a very clean model tut and model embed. Congratulations!

It seems that Maxwell already does something similar using Pixar subdivision.

Yea - I just noticed they appear to have OpenSubdiv support. (Which is what I'm working on right now - replacing my own subdivision engine with the industry standard.)

But yea, as Thomas mentions - we've been talking to some render engines in trying to find a generic way for extensions to be able to provide high-poly replacements for objects in a SketchUp model. A generic system that would allow any extension to declare itself as a proxy provider and then have render engines consume the result without needing to know anything about the other extension.

Looks like you've got the demo version. This doesn't render larger...
So for bigger output (and losing the watermark) you have to buy it.

ive been trying to download the new version and intalling it , and it replaces the licensed version and and such that it doesnt work anymore.

    The extension doesn't work?

(Oh wait - you asked in regard to Vertex Tools? You coming from an older version and updated to v1.2? You no longer use a username and password to activate. You now use a serial key. All existing customers would have received emails with their serial keys. Though some times they get caught in spam filters. You can use this URL to have the email sent again: http://evilsoftwareempire.com/recover-order)

The picture you have uploaded is the reference picture or your render result?

Without two pictures for comparison is difficult to give proper advice, but assuming that what you are after that kind of look and you have indeed the proper texture already, a high glossy reflection layer + choosing the correct size in the REPEAT section of the diffuse layer will be very important to achieve the look.

You cant depend on solely exterior light to render an interior. You need to add lights, the same way you would need to light a space in real life. Sometimes I add a couple of planes just inside the windows to fake in some more light, but you definitely need more lights in your scene or you are going to get splotchy renders.

I have to disagree with you here. I use HDRI + VraySky most of the time which gives me more than enough lighting for any interior scene (considering that an interior has a right amount of openings). I guess your statement is more valid when doing night/evening renders.

Hi, I thought I should post an update.

In the end I have found that the best and fastest way to map the textures properly is with the help of SketchUV plug-in from Whaat, available at https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/sketchuv and that in case it gets complicated, combining the fix from Rob rspierenburg mentioned above in this same thread does wonders.

So a two-level solution for the problem, depending on the disaster grade that your geometry brings to the material πŸ˜„

Hope it helps, God knows I have been bugged by this one...

Using i7-4785t 32GB of RAM. It's ok until you start rendering something like this.

It could be a lot of things honestly. But most often its either a bad/overly complicated material, or a corrupted scene. Be sure you are using the latest version of V-Ray for Sketchup, found on http://www.chaosgroup.com under the downloads section after you log in. You can also submit your issue to support@chaosgroup.com.

For some reason I had one boarder for 3 groups that it didn't like, did 3 separate borders and it worked fine. Thanks for the reply!

I recently upgraded my laptop ram to 8 GB . How can I make V-ray use more RAM, so as to boost the performance? I am using Windows 8.1 (64 bit) and Sketchup 2015 (64bit)

It's already using the full available RAM as you're using the 64bit version. So if you want to use more RAM the only way would be to upgrade to even more RAM.

However, there is something that you should be aware of... if you want to boost performance you don't need more RAM but better CPU and GPU.

RAM is just there so you can open the model and work with it. If you have enough RAM for your model it will work. If you don't have RAM enough it will freeze.

It's the GPU and CPU that determine your performance Boost...

Having a laptop means you probably can't improve on those two and that's why I ditched my laptop in favour of a Big Tower Computer... It's a bit harder to take it to construction site, but I can do what I want with it at the office!

EDIT: There's another topic about this here: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15%26amp;t=63958

if you can point me out to some clear cut modeling tuts that would be good

do you refer to sub-division tutorials? or to essential sketchup tutorials?
btw did you checked all of the other topics in this forum section? i suspect you didn't or maybe you should pay more attention, because probably you could have avoided the most of the errors in your mesh.

also make sure check sub-d documentation on the website (good and growing)
and maybe take a look to a few of the example models shared here on the sub-d forum πŸ‘

for general sketchup tutorial i don't know.. i learned it some times ago and i'm not sure wich one is the best up-to-date, but probably the official sketchup channel is a good place to start.

also try to search sketchucation for "the doh tread"
    that's essential. πŸ˜„
