Once in awhile I find Jerry's method a better option that hiding the rest of the model. If I want to add details that would generate those tiny, non-filling faces, I'll copy the component and move that instance away from the rest of the model. I scale that instance up by a factor of 10 or 100 or something. Then I do the editing on the large version. The original instances of the component get the same treatment and even those tiny faces fill. When I'm finished with the editing, I delete the enlarged instance of the component. This is faster than scaling it back down andgetting it accurately placed.

To use simple scaling to taper something like a column, you can pushpull a cylinder as in the first example tut, then select the top circle, scale it by pulling a corner handle WHILE you are holding down the Ctrl-key, this is so the centre-point becomes the scaling origin, then pull it in a little inwards, THEN type 0.5 in the VCB to make the original 800mm into 400mm [OR type 400mm - note units suffix]... The two tuts below and this scaling way are all pretty easy and straightforward...

Why not just use an image, scale it to look like ridges? Use one of the sketchy edges. This way your poly count is low which is a good thing if you are going to copy it a bunch of times.

Well you could always print a list with a thumbnail with dimensions on it. Or something. Then again Ive never been much to organize... anything at all in fact.

or you can buy for $3 a script called PageExIm (smustard.com). it allows you to export and import all the scenes you may wish. i did it and am very happy with it. p.s.: i am no smustard sales rep, just a satisfied customer.

@joe wood said: Type your first line, then type \n, followed by the next line. When you finish editing it you'll see two lines of text. Go in and Edit one of the lines in this skippy and you'll see what I did. You can also put the \n in front of a line to drop the line down. I learned this on the original @Last forum. I hope alot of you didn't know this i must be doing something wrong as it did not work for me. i typed this: 1st line \n second line but the whole thing remained on the same line.

Antonio, If you have hidden lines (view menu) turned off and you select the geometry by the selection box (not triple clicking), you cannot make a mistake; only visible ("not hidden") lines will be selected in wireframe mode.

Hi folks. In my tutorial, if you use the Polygon Tool instead of the Circle Tool, you will save the unsmoothing step. So it becomes a very quick octahedron drawing. Just ideas.

Hi Giddon, hi folks. I made some tutorials back in 2004, using the empty text technique, and explained it on the old SU forum. See attached SU 4.0 file for ideas. Multiple_arrows.skp

Hi Chris, hi folks. O.3" is 7.5mm (75mm is 3 inches). Other than that, this is an excellent tutorial. How about softening the upper edges of the stone tiles ? Just ideas.

Wow thanks much, I cant believe I hadnt thought of doing this... I made a couple models where I positioned each and every object by hand. That way took hours, this way takes minutes. See here the result of a grossly overloaded pallet when combined with a grossly under-intelligent employee. Mind you the pallet jack had to be positioned by hand, Sketchy Physics' object types do not allow the entire model to be used as a single object (unless used as a static mesh, which wont work here), leading to VERY odd things happening when placed underneath and through the slats on the pallet. This can be worked around, but I did this in a few minutes time. [image: BCkP_Firedemployee.png]
