On the features pages for xnView, it lists .skp files as type "Autodesk SketchUp component"
I'm glad that didn't actually happen!

    Lewis,

Sorry you feel I stole the idea from you. In truth I didn't, and I'm sure there are many people who realized you could use the blur filter with fog to simulate the effect when Adobe released the blur filter, I think in CS2. That's when the idea came to me anyway.

You should get full credit though for sharing the idea here first though, so many props to you.

It's a fun effect, hopefully we'll be putting out more videos on creating effects in PS. Cheers!

Oh, don't worry about it, Tyson...I have no right to be peeved, and I think I must have just been having a wretched day when I wrote that post. I'm sorry for the tone. I sure didn't patent the idea or have any desire to...and I did find, just recently, an obsolete tutorial on another forum where the old Ruby fog script for SU5 was combined with some other scripts to generate a "depth mask" output automatically, which was about the same "SketchUp" era when the idea occurred to me (I'd post some images, but the project belongs to the firm where I was working at the time and I have no right to display the renderings).

Anyone familiar with post-processing output from the dinosaur modelers like 3DS Max or Form-Z probably saw the possibility. I was doing this with Max output, z-depth alphas, and the Photoshop Gausian blur filter (and masked adjustment layers to create desaturation) in PS 6...just as I had been taught when I worked for one of the big render houses! All I needed was a gradient to depth to recreate it with SketchUp.

Incidentally, the makers of Rhino (who are really insecure about SketchUp, it seems) recently updated their faux-SketchUp "Penguin" rendering package to automatically include a depth mask output! I think a lot of people have independently noticed or realized the value of depth mask creation in the context of NPR renderings.

    Elegant method! 😎

But seems a rotation on the good axis + elevation gives the same result with the "Grow" script by Tig with just one click πŸ˜‰
Just built the first piece with an integer angle for have any problem of junctions πŸ˜‰

Just a question : How many segments or coordinates can manage SU before slowdown?

Zbrush can manage some millions of polys, I am no sure than SU can make the same πŸ˜„

Tin method is very consuming but tricky πŸ˜‰

Waiting next Tin episode with delight β˜€

I didnt understand a single word of that. I never use those kinda' inferences. I stick to the classic 'Shift' while drawing the line.

Then, I built the roof apart and I positionned it on the 2nd floor. My idea was to cut the walls with the roof and to keep only parts needed. But, what a mess finally !!! Many walls are wide open now and it's difficult to retrieve closed geometrical forms :pb_avec_toit.JPG

Anyway, presentation is nice ... and my first objectif is a volume study for an extension to be coming :vue_globale.JPG

Many thanks for all the help I found on this forum.

Cool! Hey, it also works with the rotate tool! You can use it to array or divide an object around a circle or an arc!

Thanks all! Howard Leslie, I think i'll try the bezier curve method to draw the edges and see what I get. I still haven't seen any tuts that allow control of the curve.
This would be an improvement in my curvy modeling skills if I can figure this one out.
understanding how to do more curvy things was one of my goals for thsi year πŸ˜„
I'm arware of the soapskins powers. It's the curve edge that I need to control and bezier just may give me that I hope.
My assumed method is as follows.

located columns in plan. draw columns as one line initially (to be line2cylinder later)at given length. tilt column to desired degree. rotate column to desired degree. connect tops of lines with bezier curve using one of the bezier scripts? after edges are designed used sopaskin (it's a beautiful thing!) to create mesh. smooth mesh.
Is this the way to execute? If I have missed something let me know. I'll try it when I have time tonight.

That's my hoby. But since I discover SUp I'm doing too much virtual works πŸ˜„
My wife ask me to visit more often my shop!!! Anyway I've a lot of fun with you guys.
When I started with SUp I had a very good support with Dave Richards. I learned a lot and still continue with all of you. Thanks[attachment=0:1etw4h3o]<!-- ia0 -->Petite table Louis XV_couleur.jpg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1etw4h3o]

    Jean-Franco,

Your work is beautifully detailed and proportioned. Please continue to share!
SU does certainly seem to have an addictive quality for some of us, and add to that the pleasure of sharing your work with kindred souls from around the world... well it is no wonder we are spending more time in the virtual world. Our spouses will just need to adjust. πŸ˜„

BTW, I did a quick Google Earth visit to Mulhouse. I'd never heard of it before and was curiuos. It looks like a very pleasant small city.

I would think that you would much prefer a logo rendered out of a ray tracer, as opposed to SU. You will get a much product, IMHO, once you can incorporate reflectivity, radiosity, and a custom lighting set up.
