    • Azure Virtual Machines

I'm trying to set up an Azure Virtual machine to Run SketchUp on.

When I run SketchUp, I get this error message:

*The following errors were found when launching SketchUp:

      • Hardware acceleration is unsupported or has been disabled on your graphics card. SketchUp requires that you use a hardware accelerated graphics card.

Unfortunately, these errors will prevent SketchUp from running. Updating your graphics card drivers might fix the problem.

See this Help Center article for more information.*

      Looking around, I found this:

      https://forums.sketchup.com/t/running-sketchup-2017-via-vpn-launching-issue…

Workaround: Start Sketchup on the host computer and leave it running. Sketchup 2017 will then work remotely via Remote Desktop. This is presumably because they only perform the video card check when the program starts.
Re: other questions about configs: Yes, other operating systems and remote/VNC software can produce varied results. I'm only speaking about connecting to a Windows machine using the Microsoft Remote Desktop client software. (Note: The client operating system is not important here. I regularly connect to my remote Windows machine using both Mac and PC.)

But it didn't work for me.

Has anyone been able to run SketchUp on an Azure Virtual machine?

Perhaps I just need to select a machine with a GPU???

    • RE: Sample Model for Rendering - Ferrari

I stumbled across this thread and realized that I had never uploaded an image.

Here is one from IRender nXt, after just 10 passes and 10 minutes.

This model is now a sample model for the ArielVision rendering package.

The mirror, and other items in the image which show highlights or reflections were made reflective by right-clicking on the material in SketchUp, and selecting a default reflection:

And some lights were placed on the ceiling. (Some small lights were also placed inside of the candles)

ArielVision then create a Photorealistic image by processing all the effects of lights and reflection and creating a rendered image.

    • Looking for someone to create models and make renderings

We are looking for someone to create videos to help people use our SketchUp Rendering Extension.

Typically you will choose a feature of the Extension, create or modify one our your own models, or a 3D Warehouse model, to utilize the feature- for example adding a ceiling light to demonstrate lighting - and then create a video by capturing the screen as you set parameters for the light and render it, adding and editing voice overs for the video.

The videos will be placed on YouTube and will typically be 1 to 4 minutes long.

Here is a typical video of this type:

    • RE: SketchUpAPI.dll - 32 and 64 bit

      We are creating two .exe's

SketchUpReader32.exe and SketchUpReader64.exe, and placing them in the same folder.

The .exe's automatically load SketchUpAPI.dll from the same folder, but we can't put both the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions of the DLL in the same folder, because they have the same name.

    • SketchUpAPI.dll - 32 and 64 bit

We have a 32 bit and a 64 bit version of our .exe which uses SketchUpAPI.dll.

SketchUp provides both a 32 bit and a 64 bit version of SketchUpAPI.dll, but they have the same name.

We would like to put both of our .EXEs (32 bit and 64 bit) in the same folder, but have them load different versions of SketchUpAPI.dll.

We tried renaming the 64 but dll, but that didn't work

Any ideas on how we could have both .exes (and all the support files) in the same folder?

    • Rendering Tip - Select IES Patterns

Many SketchUp rendering packages provide easy access to 30 standard IES Patterns which you can apply to lights.

Here are samples of 6 of them.

      http://wiki.renderplus.com/images/f/fe/IesSixExamples.jpg

You can easily select one of these patterns and render your model using it.

IES light files are created by many major lighting manufacturers and can be downloaded freely from their sites.

    • Create More Realistic Renderings with IES Profiles

      http://wiki.renderplus.com/images/thumb/c/c6/IesExample.jpg/600px-IesExample.jpg

IES Light Profiles are illumination standards developed by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, the recognized authority on illumination. The profiles enhance IRender nXt renderings with light distribution that is more accurate. IRender nXt includes 30 IES Presets and many lighting manufacturers provide IES profiles for their fixtures.

Images of IES Presets and a more comprehensive description is available: IES_Lights
