Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Thank you Remus and Thomthom, I copied the model and pasted it in another new file in SU6. But this has not solved the problem. This is happening only with this particular file. Anyway, I shall manage with SU6 for this file. Because of my slow internet connection I am unable to upload the file. With best regards PRSS

Well I figured it out by myself...theres a little options button in the export dialog box that I never saw before. Now that I have found that I can now really start using sketchup for my maps and scene backdrops (for D&D games).

I've had no compatibility problems with Windows7 with the 3D applications I've tried. Sketchup, Rhino, Vue, 3DMax, Bonzai ... there's been some more trials I've tried, but I can't remember right now. Basically - I think that if it worked on Vista it works on W7. The only thing that you need to pay special attention to is applications that require drivers. But usually Vista drivers will work.

You can. Problem is that one side or that volume you are trying to PP through the wall is somewhere inside the wall. So from the surface, you may be trying to PP it through but then it flips and disappears and appears on the other side. Right click the wall > Hide and PP your volume. Then go to Edit > Unhide and unhide your wall. Note that it's grouped (probably multi layered) so if you want your PP'ed volume to interact with it, you'll need to edit it (or all the groups) first (or copy the volume into the groups) multi layer wall test1.skp

More into the details; what "screenshot" do you want to use? I mean for a game, I could imagine several ways to export SU geometry/images whatnot but what is called a "screenshot" is not really what one would expect with a game.

erick. A thought on your original post. Even if your windows are 2D flat squares make them coponents. That way you will be able to edit an entire buildings windows (or any other repetivly used geometry) by changing only one. Also, you can use simply constructed components as placemarkers for more elaboratly modeled versions. You can reload the fancy version when they are needed. This will save your CPU for zoom/pan/orbit while modeling the rest of your city. Always always always model on layer0. Move only entire groups to a diferent layer. If you come from AutoCad forget everything you know about layers.

Sorry for any confusion, I am rendering the model with vray. I usually always model each piece of siding with the correct profile (via one profile and scaling the component), makes for better shadow lines and faster render times vs. doing a bump or displacement map. Soooo I guess I really dont know my question, maybe I answered it. I guess if anyone has any other ideas on a more efficient way of doing it.

File -> Export -> 2D Graphic (use the option button in the file dialog to set the output size)

@ely862me said: Edited: just find the pdf splitter and merger That's good because I wouldn't have known the answer as I have never tried to do this (just thought it would work) So you spared me some trial and error playing around now. BTW SU Pro can also export to pdf and that's even vector based (unlike PDFCreator which will export a raster pdf only). (Just trying to look nice at Google )

Hey - I just thought of something... Instead of making the image transparent for sketchy edges, I could cut it away. I'd have to cut the image around the solid shape. Here's what I mean: I am putting images of 2D people into a 3D model. The area in the image that's around the person is transparent. The sketchy edges do not show through. How about if I cut away all the transparent areas? Is there a way to follow the outline of an object in an image and cut around it? (A way that does not make me want to pull out my hair. And quick, too. I have lots of images.) By the way, this is for a scene from the movie I'm making. I am creating a series of short movies using SU animation. You can see the first one, Plain Sight, at TreasureInside.net The next movie has a party scene with many images of people. --- Joel

I haven't used post processing for landscape and other objects (yet). I do it primarily to adjust, brightness, contrast, and gamma.

We have one other source of information. Of the people who have download RpWallMaker Free (which runs on both Mac and Windows), 1 in 6 have downloaded the Mac version. (1 Mac download for every 5 Windows downloads). One of the reasons we created these free products (RpTreeMaker Free as well) is to get more information about who uses SketchUp and how to reach out to them. (For instance, it is probably safe to presume that not all SketchUp users participate in this forum)

Problem is: there's no access to dimensions via the SU API.
