      Hello all

This may be a very dumb question. Difference between Google SketchUP 8 Pro Layout Vs Trimble ScketchUP Pro 2017 layout - are there big diffeences ? What are the major improvements

I Google searched with little success. Hence i am posting it here.

      Thanks in advance

      Hello slbaumgartner

Your script worked when I copy pasted it in the console. But you were mentioning about a button that could run this script. I have no idea of scripting & the like and I might never learn it too. Can you please tell me how to make a button for just this script?

I could not get Jim Foltz's script for this however much I Googled for it. I could not find it in his Web site's my plugins" too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance

    • Can you save to SketchUP 7 as default

      Hello

May be this is a dumb question.

Is there any way of always save skp files to SketchUP 7 ?

Autocad has a default saveas mode in options so that one could always make it as a default.

But I could not find any such options in SketchUP 2017 Pro.

I have just purchased SketchUP 2017 Pro 2 copies and installed. I still have 2 old computers (in very good condition) running Google SketchUP 7 in Windows XP in my 4 man army office(including me)

If I could make it as default to always save as skp 7 version, it would be convenient to move files between the new & old computers. (of course it could be done manually but it does take an extra effort).

      Thanks in advance

    • RE: Help Improve My Images

      Hi Joe Wood

I have a feeling your problem might be this.

When you have set the image size to 6000 pixels wide, you are also reducing the appearance of edges to less than what you see on a Full HD Monitor (which is only 1920 pixels wide) That may be the reason the images are looking with lesser punch because you are getting very, very thin lines as edges so the image looks less sharp.

Why not try increasing the profile line thickness to 6 or keep it to 2 but switch on Depth Cue and increase to 6 and then export the image. You would get an image with more punch and also appear sharper. Play around with both the profile thickness and the Depth Cue thickness. You would get varying results.

      Best regards

    • RE: SketchUP plugins for creating walls and to punch windows

      Thank you very much krisidious.
Why I posted this question was : I am undergoing an intensive training in Autodesk BIM suite - especially Revit. My intentions are not to get Bill of Materials also. I wish to stop with the process of automating the detailed drawing process once the model is complete. I wondered if I could do the same in SketchUP - instead of doing in Revit.

To be precise, I only need to have the 2D detailed drawings - plans, sections, elevations, enlarged details etc. extracted from the 3D model and I must be able to print them to scale. I am an architect who handles Villas & Bungalows & small scale commercial & other buildings - no huge projects. Would Revit be an overkill? In terms of investment also, it is very high. Would purchasing SketchUP Pro and a plugin like plusspec - which you have mentioned - (would work out way cheaper) - will that be a wiser decision?

I seek advice here in this forums from you and other seniors who also do BIM.

      Thanks in advance

I forgot. It should also cut sections and give 2d drawings - all in FREE Google SketchUP 8 version.
