Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

erick. A thought on your original post. Even if your windows are 2D flat squares make them coponents. That way you will be able to edit an entire buildings windows (or any other repetivly used geometry) by changing only one. Also, you can use simply constructed components as placemarkers for more elaboratly modeled versions. You can reload the fancy version when they are needed. This will save your CPU for zoom/pan/orbit while modeling the rest of your city. Always always always model on layer0. Move only entire groups to a diferent layer. If you come from AutoCad forget everything you know about layers.

Sorry for any confusion, I am rendering the model with vray. I usually always model each piece of siding with the correct profile (via one profile and scaling the component), makes for better shadow lines and faster render times vs. doing a bump or displacement map. Soooo I guess I really dont know my question, maybe I answered it. I guess if anyone has any other ideas on a more efficient way of doing it.

@ely862me said: Edited: just find the pdf splitter and merger That's good because I wouldn't have known the answer as I have never tried to do this (just thought it would work) So you spared me some trial and error playing around now. BTW SU Pro can also export to pdf and that's even vector based (unlike PDFCreator which will export a raster pdf only). (Just trying to look nice at Google )

Hey - I just thought of something... Instead of making the image transparent for sketchy edges, I could cut it away. I'd have to cut the image around the solid shape. Here's what I mean: I am putting images of 2D people into a 3D model. The area in the image that's around the person is transparent. The sketchy edges do not show through. How about if I cut away all the transparent areas? Is there a way to follow the outline of an object in an image and cut around it? (A way that does not make me want to pull out my hair. And quick, too. I have lots of images.) By the way, this is for a scene from the movie I'm making. I am creating a series of short movies using SU animation. You can see the first one, Plain Sight, at TreasureInside.net The next movie has a party scene with many images of people. --- Joel

I haven't used post processing for landscape and other objects (yet). I do it primarily to adjust, brightness, contrast, and gamma.

We have one other source of information. Of the people who have download RpWallMaker Free (which runs on both Mac and Windows), 1 in 6 have downloaded the Mac version. (1 Mac download for every 5 Windows downloads). One of the reasons we created these free products (RpTreeMaker Free as well) is to get more information about who uses SketchUp and how to reach out to them. (For instance, it is probably safe to presume that not all SketchUp users participate in this forum)

Problem is: there's no access to dimensions via the SU API.

@unknownuser said: Forgive me ..I am not a Mac user...I should probably just shut up but... In our office we just access the library we need on the company shared drive directly through the component/material browser/dialogue....nothing special to do at all. We pick up materials and create our own folders for materials where ever. ....see I told you I should shut up!! Thanks for your response - no need to shut up! You would think that the method you describe would work on a Mac, but, unfortunately, it does not. For some reason, the Mac version of the Sketchup material palette/browser does not allow you to choose the destination of newly created the folders, and won't allow you to browse for external material sources. It IS possible with the Mac version to create shared Component Libraries. Why? I don't know. Again, Thanks anyway. Anyone else have ideas about this? Doug

Coolapp. And yeah, what I'm actually planning to do is a kind of interactive walkthrough in my city in its different, historic ages. I've also been thinking about panoramas (rather than "real" 3D walkthrough) because they sem to be streaming better on the internet.

Your right in thinking you cant use IES profiles in podium or SU, several of the other renderers can, though.

If it's an office computer, make sure that SU is allowed to communicate with the Internet (have a check at the firewall settings for instance). Network administrators tend to limit everything as much as possible.

When I first came across plugins for SU I looked over the lists of plugins and their description. If the description of what they did appeared to fit my workflow I'd try them out. It's really subjective which plugins will fit you as it depends on your own usage of Sketchup.
