BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Moving this to the general section as it's not related to V-Ray.

Thanks for the quick replies. I wasn't aware of the bounding box centers and now that I go back to the model I see that the center of the object that I'm using to position is also the center of the bounding box - thus the difficulty I was having. Now, being aware of that feature, I can easily avoid it. Thanks again.

It works on a selection so you need to select some objects before running the code. Incidentally, I recommend that you do use a component for the marker, otherwise a raw geometry circle will have many 'parts' [face+all_edges] that with each return a 'center' ! Were there no messages in the Console? It probably said 'true' when it immediately finished processing the empty selection ! Try as I say and report what happens... It works for me. here's the line with the 2 'center' methods added... m=Sketchup.active_model;a=m.selection.to_a;m.start_operation('x');a.dup.each{|o|;g=m.active_entities.add_group();e=g.entities;(a-[o]).each{|i|e.add_line(o.bounds.center, i.bounds.center)}};m.commit_operation

I'm no expert at rendering and those links will give you good info. I go into my studio photographer mode when I am setting up lights for Kerkythea. I also consider adding reflective surfaces to bounce light back in to the model and sometimes I add gobos as well.

Yes, after that. I added 1 more modle to the keyword 3D "Making it 2501", but only 2500 shows when I cycle through the results to the end. @aerilius said: Have you ever browsed through 2500 results? It could have technical reasons. A google search with reasonable criteria can also give some statistics.

I've made some progress. I learned how to import a real airfoil with a non-zero thickness trailing edge (NACA 0006) and loft it into a simple fin shape. Then I used the technique in the video to make a fillet. It's pretty good and I'm going to close this thread. Thanks for the help cotty! [image: XWcR_FinfilletalaCurviloft.png] Fillet 2(v6).skp

If he's trying to keep the face planar there should be no triangulation. That only happens when you make it non-planar. I'm still not exactly sure what the geometry and deformation he's talking about though. It'd be nice to see screenshots or a sample model.

Thanks for the feedback. Gaieus I've tried a number of these variations but without luck. It works for sections because the section line can be exported. Maybe someone will write a clever Ruby oneday...

@thomthom said: I terms of marketing Google did very good for SketchUp - I agree. But in terms of developing the core application - they did badly. How true... I came along right after Google bought SketchUp and was enthusiastic about having such a well moneyed and powerful company behind the product... won't make that mistake again Best, Jason.

Another I that I think has always happened with section planes is that they obscure your model a lot of the "hide rest of model" slider in the model info/components dialog is towards the left. This happens when the section cut itself is outside of the current group I am working on. It goes from being something like an 80% transparent white surface when the "hide rest of model" slider is at the right, to an 0% transparent grey surface when the "hide rest of model" is at the left. Of course you can keep the slider at the right, or turn of the section plane, but would be nice to keep it but always have it mostly transparent. Does anyone run into this as an issue, or does it not affect anyone's work? David

@ely862me: @unknownuser said: Joint Push&Pull !! viewtopic.php?t=6708 That sounds good. I'll give it a try. Thanks @andre51 @unknownuser said: They should be able to set the "skin" or outer shell to only print a certain thickness. Yes, that's right. I'll ask Shapeways, what they can do for me. @unknownuser said: We do it on our little printer and it is a very simple process. So do we. We can define (to) many parameters. @d12dozr: @unknownuser said: Print services typically operate on an automated system, and this kind of customization is too much for current systems. Exactly! That's why I was looking for a plugin.

You know, if it split the curve into two connected curves, could it be that there is a deeper level of triangulation across the rectangular starting face, that happens to affect the curve? Maybe not.
