Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Depending on your render software you could use a proxy instead.

No. But you could open it in Revit and export it in other formats... like DXF... which are then importable into SketchUp. There are thousands of file formats, and many of them are specific to one application. To hope that a certain file format might be usable in another application without some translation is a hope too far...

Thanks. That makes sense. If it was anything significant it would be more obvious.

I only use my dwg files as a reference. I never pull faces from those lines. I always draw over the dwg files. Sure it adds extra work but for me it saves time as I have a much cleaner model.

You might try component spray by Didier Bur, I believe. Not sure if it has been updated. There may be other similar plugins.

Because the faces inside the group already have a color. Change them back to Default material then color the group. Usually I don't color groups, but the faces inside. Your faces in the tall group are backwards (blue pointing out). You can select them all and choose context menu "reverse faces".

Thanks TIG for the feedback - I eventually used a lisp routine to read the text and place it at the correct elevation, then I used another lisp to place a point at the text insertion followed by your point triangulation routine in SU and all done! Could be simpler if the surveyor just used 3d from the word go...

Hey, I also use SU primarily for exhibition design work, so hope this may be useful. For rendering I use Thea, which I've found offers the best balance between quality and speed in a deadline-driven environment. As for drafting, it really depends on the level you need. For knocking out some quickly dimensioned elevations, Layout does the job, but for drafting from-scratch, I found it way too laborious (I do accept this may be my shortcoming, not SketchUp's). For 2D drafting, I've moved over to NanoCad, which has a VERY Autocad-like interface, and more importantly is FREE, for the basic version which does everything I need. Between SU, Thea and NanoCad, I think I've got it covered cheers, A

I am wondering if some little gimmick like a mouseover/flyout show credit could work. Of course this may not be the format you are using. That is more like a webpage thing. In the real print world you just provide a Footnote and Bibliography.
