BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Keep in mind you can't do anything to modify the geometry in a group or component without opening said group or component for editing. In fact that is a very important feature you should be leveraging in your models.

Back edges - default key is k, or View > Edge Style > Back edges. Also on the Styles Toolbar.

What software do you have? some point cloud files benefit from some pre-processing before using them in CAD such as SU. Have you got Excel and something that both open and save/export dwg or dxf (Autocad, Bricscad etc)? Also what is the data? will it become a terrain type surface, or is it buildings or sensor data? I ask because there are several ways to take a las file to say csv or dxf for SU import, some resulting in a more useful file than others. Goto google cache of old Stackexchange page http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache;0j5MxQQhegsJ;stackoverflow.com/questions/13425551/convert-las-file-to-csv+%26amp;cd=1%26amp;hl=en%26amp;ct=clnk%26amp;gl=nz%26amp;client=firefox-a, a useful las to csv discussion there, with some solutions.

Please search on sketchucation for a plugin which make sketchup layer transform to sketchup materials. Revit export .dwg and generate layers like Wall, Glas, Frame ...These layers remain when import to sketchup. That will help you quickly paint the whole model in the first step.

@bsquared18 said: Is there a way to copy a component axis from one component to another? I'm not sure if i understand what you want, but to copy the axes you could copy/paste the component with the correct axes or make a dummy component and copy the geometry of the wrong oriented components into the new one (cut+paste - and after making it unique). Or copy a group instead of the component and turn it into a component later, if you need it. The size of the component axes can't be changed i think.

Alas... that is the life of a plugin developer... You have to roll with the changes of the host program. I will say, though that SketchUp did an excellent job of alerting us to the upcoming changes and gave developers plenty of time to make changes before 2014 was released. Not all software companies give their API users that much time to get compliant before releases!

I havent seen that one before. I wonder what software they used for the animation as these camera movements aren't easily created in SketchUp.

Sally, I'm happy it worked for you. I don't know why it worked that way but I'm happy it seems to be settled.

Hi Jeff, no, I wasn't getting the cursor in the input field, so I couldn't assign anything, but I've just checked again now (on my mac book ) and it's working fine again, so I don't know what happened. But thanks, all is well! best regards.

i can't duplicate what you're saying.. and i guess i'm not entirely clear on how you're working. it's possible you have a corrupt file somewhere but before i start recommended resetting them, i'd like to know what happens if you do this: menu -> Restart... make sure the box "Reopen windows when logging back in" is unchecked.. click 'Restart' let the computer boot back up and launch SketchUp.. what happens? do all the recent files open or is there only a single blank document which opens?

@dave r said: You won't get a list of commands. Hold Ctrl while clicking and dragging tools from other native toolbars to the new, custom toolbar(s). This custom toolbar thing only works with the native tools. Open all the native toolbars that contain tools you want on your new toolbars and drag over the tools you want. Then close those native toolbars leaving custom toolbars open. Got it. Thanks.
