@tig said: BUT if the intersection with a Line results in an Arc that is effectively swept through 360º - so that its start vertex is at the same point as its end vertex... then later on you will get a BugSplat when trying to change the segments in Entity Info That's exactly what I was doing (a line from 0,0,0 out some distance equal to the desired radius following by moving to that point to start the circle, finishing it at 0,0,0 again). Only then, huh? Wow... that's an odd one.

It would be nice. It's never been a feature in past versions, though. I used it as an opportunity to get rid of some tools that I never use. Since I almost never use Dimensions or the text tools so I freed up some real estate.

I think it's just about usability - as far as I know, the game environment treats everything as tris. SU doesn't export models in a nice, quadrilateralised form, since it was never made with quad-based modelling in mind. A face with some rounded corners, some holes cut, and maybe some arching edges may seem simple in SU, but actually translates to a lot of tris that export in whatever arbitrary way SU decides, making it difficult to edit in Maya, Max, Blender, etc. Quadrilateralising the mesh helps, as it arranges the tris nicely, but even so, they are still tris. The main reasons I like quads: -Easily editable. Dragging vertices around on a quad mesh creates predictable results. ngons act strangely in this situation. -Edge loops. Edge loops are a huge part of most modeling applications, and allow for easier selection, division, and readability. tris and ngons do not produce good edge loops. -Deformation. Quads deform predictably and smoothly, making them much more presentable in an animated mesh.

@coolair said: Maybe i should find an earlier version... that won't make it easier, in fact it will be harder, things have improved with each new version... if you can, install v2015 for the least issues, then read up on the many threads explaining how to instal plugins... the methods for v2014 and v2015 are the same, but make sure you only add 'version compatable' plugins. cross posting with dave, but will carry on john

I took SU2015 as an opportunity to house clean as I have always ctrl+c copied plugins from one version to the next and the same with my shortcuts. I manually reinstalled all of my favorite plugins and tossed the old ones that never really used. Then I ran this script in the ruby console and went through all of my shortcuts. Some I knew, some I had no idea. UI.messagebox(Sketchup.get_shortcuts.join("\n"), MB_MULTILINE)

Ctrl+drag does indeed work for moving tools from the native toolbars to your custom toolbars. If it isn't working for you, check your keyboard. You do have to have the toolbars window open while customizing the toolbars. You can also just drag the tools over without holding Ctrl. If you want to restore the tools on the native toolbars, click on Reset.

It's been moved to C:\Users\YouUserName\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\SketchUp\Plugins Your system may have it hidden, so if you can't find it turn on hidden files.
