In Model Info/Units you have it set to inches and 0 precision, so it can only tell you the rounded up dimension. Adjust the precision and it will give you an accurate dimension.

You could put your component libraries somewhere that doesn't require permission changes. Make a folder in My Documents or if you have a second hard drive, put the folder there.

Nah. It should stay. Maybe someone else will come along with the same issue and happen on this thread. Glad you got it sorted out.

The invisible selection box isn't a feature as you assume. It has to do with the OpenGL settings on your computer. Go to Window>Preferences>OpenGL and untick the box for Use Hardware acceleration. Click OK and then quit and restart SketchUp. Do you see the selection box after doing that?

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to solve the problem, and in so doing may have found out something about sketchup that may help others. I was never able to close the face "normally", so I tried Wo3dan's suggestion of a diagonal line. That didn't work either (the face didn't fill at all or only partially filled.) However, on closer examination, some of the lines between the points, while appearing to be continuous, were actually combinations of multiple segments. So I erased the segments, replaced with a continuous line and it filled diagonally, which is ok for my purposes. I still don't understand why it won't fill normally with two Z1 and two Z2 points, but at least this worked. So to make sure a face closes diagonally, make sure the lines are single and continuous and not combinations of segments.

If you are coming to SU from Wings3D then you're going to be used to subdivision modelling. While SU will do the things you ask, right out of the box (you can also type in the required number of line segments BTW, in addition to doing it visually) you can greatly extend its capabilities by choosing from a huge number of plugins/extensions. Most of them are free (and available here). Others are commercial but usually fairly low-cost...like Artisan.

ok - I found the corrupt file in my work pc recycle bin. apply fredoscale and use the 'box stretch to target' option. click the origin onto one of the leg's baseplate and you should see strange wireframe effects take place as you stretch/collapse the component. Now that I am back on a computer I've had another look, and you have other problems. You are using layers incorrectly. Layers in Sketchup should only be used to control visibility and as such only groups and components should be assigned to different layers. All raw geometry needs to be on Layer0, once you have grouped it you can assign it a layer. To put it simply, if you explode everything down to raw geometry nothing should disappear when you turn a layer off.
