Title sums it up, I have three faces on a three planes of a stadium, they are downward sloping at 14 degrees. The z coordinates of the two upper points are the same, as are the z coordinates of the two lower points. Yet it won't close; all of the other planes of the stadium do close. I ran MakeFaces and it doesn't close it either. Any ideas would be appreciated.

How many sides? Having equal z-coordinates doesn't mean much. If you are talking four sides, parallel lines in such a case would work. But you say they are on planes so that's confusing. Draw the shape on the planes then. That should work in SU.

Upload the model or the faces that won't close. It will be easy to tell then.

Connect the two upper points A and B, resulting in say edge (a)
Connect the two lower point C and D, resulting in say edge (b)
Copy edge b towards a, dropping point C on A. You'll see that they aren't superimposed, they do not have the same direction.

A and B on the same Z1 and C and D also on the same Z2 doesn't mean a thing.
In your case a diagonal to triangulate the foursided loop will close the area. Then hide (and smooth) the diagonal.

First check that all the corners are actually connected. Zoom right in if necessary. Assuming that they are, and whilst still zoomed in, check that there aren't any microscopic line stubs hanging around...either in-line as part of an edge, or sticking out perpendicular to an edge.
90% of the time I've encountered this problem it's been due to small, unwanted sections of edge.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to solve the problem, and in so doing may have found out something about sketchup that may help others.
I was never able to close the face "normally", so I tried Wo3dan's suggestion of a diagonal line. That didn't work either (the face didn't fill at all or only partially filled.) However, on closer examination, some of the lines between the points, while appearing to be continuous, were actually combinations of multiple segments. So I erased the segments, replaced with a continuous line and it filled diagonally, which is ok for my purposes. I still don't understand why it won't fill normally with two Z1 and two Z2 points, but at least this worked.
So to make sure a face closes diagonally, make sure the lines are single and continuous and not combinations of segments.
