Im comming off of wings 3d and decided to switch because it feels stupidly outdated, but now im looking to see if i can do some of the same things i do in wings. One of my most used tools in wings was the cut tool where you select an edge and as the name implies, cut it into a certain number of segments. There was also an inset tool that would inset faces (create smaller faces within a face basically.) Is there anything like this in su?

Right click on the edge and choose Divide. Move the mouse left and right to change the number of segments to be created.

Select the Offset Tool and move the mouse pointer to a face which will auto-select. Click and drag to create an inset or offset to the face.

Nothing is worthless, it can always be used as a bad example.

If you are coming to SU from Wings3D then you're going to be used to subdivision modelling.
While SU will do the things you ask, right out of the box (you can also type in the required number of line segments BTW, in addition to doing it visually) you can greatly extend its capabilities by choosing from a huge number of plugins/extensions. Most of them are free (and available here). Others are commercial but usually fairly low-cost...like Artisan.
