Thanks Pilou, that was the video I was looking for and did not find. After creating some better images to project, I was able to get it done. Here is an image of how it finally turned out.... [image: 8APD_Capture-RevisedProjectionImage.PNG] Notice that I actually had to make two copies because of the orientation. The original image that I was using just did not work well at all (was a photograph that was taken at an angle). It sure isn't perfect but it is close enough for how it is being used and a huge step forward from what I originally had. Once again, thanks for the reply..........

I did a design for one after seeing it and estimated it to be about 6k in cost of materials I think. I'd have to go find it to be sure. And I considered the same thing. VERY heavy. I bid mine using 4x8 sheets though. And if someone was smart enough to design wisely and to use a CNC to optimize the cutting, you might be able to trim some cost in reusing scraps.

SOLUTION You guys can hammer out what change could be made to fix this issue but I got a reply from the folks at engineering toolbox. When you click insert and nothing happens you can fix it by refreshing the page. Right click in the page and select "refresh". After that the insert will work. Maybe this can be added to the plugin somehow? But anyhow this gets us back to work. Thank you everyone for your time!! Mark Henry

I've changed my method, now using the Bitmap to Mesh plugin from ThomThom. One word. Amazing. Saves me a lot of hassle in illustrator, live tracing etc... or installing Maya for displacement map. Case Closed

Slow saving of files could be fixed by disabling 'Redefine thumbnail on save' in 'Model Info - File'. Maybe it helps with your problem as well.

Just thought I'd tell everyone we found no fix as such, but someone else on the team has the pro version of SketchUp and that has the export options we needed. I don't understand the incompatibility between all these programmes but at least I have my problem sorted.

I had a similar issue with a horizontal section plan through a house model getting flipped upside down after I used the scale tool to mirror the model right to left. I noticed that the section plane arrows went the wrong way and the cut showed the wrong half of the model. I was unable to select the shown geometry correctly. In Layout, the object snap feature wouldn't select geometry that wasn't right on the section cut. The Sketchup scene with the cut in question kept breaking: it would show the wrong half of the cut from time to time, and I would need to switch it back. My solution: I noticed that the axes of my house got flipped along with the house model when I used the scale tool. I used: Tools>Axes to change the axes of the house back to the default configuration. This change made my section plane and section cut work normally again.

This is what I use # Let 'point' be the new insertion point of the component. # Let vector=ORIGIN.point.vector_to(point) # Let tr=Geom;;Transformation.translation(vector) vector = component.transformation.origin.vector_to(new_origin) tr = Geom;;Transformation.translation(vector) component.definition.entities.transform_entities(tr.inverse, component.definition.entities.to_a) # All of the component's innards jump to suit, so the instance is now in the wrong place relative to its container's contents... # To fix any instances so the contents are placed back as they were, inside their individual container... component.definition.instances.each{ |inst| inst.transform!(tr) } component.definition.invalidate_bounds

Francois, I stumbled across your posting and oddly enough, I am doing exactly the same thing - now, it's 2020, so it's close to 5 years after you posted this so I wanted to see how you've progressed with this workflow? Any feedback would be great - have you thought of or have already converted over to using the newest version of Layout or you still working between the two apps (SU & VW)? Thanks! J @frv said: I had to do some elevations in a hurry. I had a detailled SU model. Imported it into Layout. Set the scale to 1:100 Exported a pdf from Layout. Imported the pdf of several pages as a reference into Vectorworks (2014) on several designlayers and put them into vieuwports set up as A1 elevations drawings with dimensions and all. This is a housing units project devided over 3 blocks. 12 elevations. Now when I edit the SU model all I have to do is update the Layout file and reexport the pdf. Then open the Vectoworksfile which automatically updates all pdf references. And all my 12 elevations are updated at once. Since this link is by pdf you can actually snap to lines in the pdf in Vectorworks. Conclusion: With a few simple clicks I have a perfect (layout) link between SU and Vectorworks. I don't have to mess about replacing pdf's. All is done automatically. It would even be better if Layout could update all its pages by one click. I could not use Layouts tools for dimensions etc. Too slow and a bit too simple to properly set up drawings with. Mayby someone can make a plugin that automates the proces of opening the Layout file, update all pages and export to pdf again. It might be that turning on Profiles in your style's edge settings would take care of the issue. With profiles turned off, you can wind up with this sort of thing. [image: 6207200155_e6846d44e1_z.jpg] But with Profiles turned on (and set to 1) curved surfaces will look like this. [image: 6207200107_2bdf29730d_z.jpg] Using hidden Line for the face style makes this appear a bit more dramatic than it will in other face styles but the same thing happens with those other face styles.
