It could be that those shortcuts are hard coded similarly to others like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc.

Thanks for your query! Absolutely, there are many excellent beginner tutorials for creating neon signs and text. YouTube is a great place to start; search for "neon sign text tutorial" or "neon sign effect for beginners." You'll find step-by-step guides covering software like Photoshop, Illustrator, or even free alternatives like GIMP. Websites like Skillshare and Udemy also offer comprehensive courses on neon sign design. These resources will provide you with the knowledge and skills to craft stunning neon light signage, whether for personal projects or professional design work. Happy creating!

Maybe by changing sketchUp model, you can get a white background directly?

@rocketfox said: Box that is fantastic, thank you! Would a complex curve follow a similar procedure? Yes and no, it depends on the shape. You can create any shape you want and intersect it with an arch, or you can use various plugins to form complex shapes from complex curves. Here's a quick example of one very useful one on roughly your shape. [image: 4Ohd_Curviloftskin.gif]

Your are perhaps confusing 'vertex' and 'point'. An edge has a start vertex and an end vertex. This vertex can belong to more edges depending on the 3d geometry, and context arrangements. A vertex has a 'position' which is represented by a 'point' in space. In newer SketchUp versions an Entity has a persistent_id. A 'vertex' is an Entity. If you move a vertex in space its 'position', and therefore its 'point', can change, but its persistent_id remains intact. If you have two edges sharing a vertex, then that vertex is a single entity, and has one persistent_id. But if you subsequently separate the two edges into different contexts - e.g. one is now moved inside a group - those two edges have been changed and each now has a separate vertex where they shared one, the vertex that stays in the original context might be expected to keep the persistent_id, but the one that is now inside the group's context is in effect a new vertex and gets its own unique persistent_id. If SketchUp did not do this, then chaos would result with persistent_id's ! You can track your edges by persistent_id as these move en mass into any new context - with their vertices can get recreated when shared ones get split-off in this way. Use a persistent_id for each edge and reference its start/end vertices etc... The edge will keep its persistent_id, but some vertices might not...

If you wish to control units for areas independently from the model unit, and use 2D Label to assign the text to faces, then you can have a look at FredoTools::ReportLabelArea. [image: yr5X_ReportLabelArea-Labelling.png]

Then I won't redistribute them. I guess legally if he did not explicitly allow redistribution, it is not allowed. Still, just removing all plugins distributed over years without leaving a note is pure anti-social behavior in my book.

I uploaded it...let me try again. If you don't get it maybe direct me to the "How to attach a file-for dummies" page. Thx

First, that is just a SketchUp image export. The style, as was mentioned, is a basic grey background. See here: [image: unsD_01.JPG] A couple of things to take note while exporting images. If you export with screen resolution (view size) your lines will be jaggy and gross. Like this: [image: hOZJ_02.jpg] [image: O0F4_03.jpg] However, if you export at a higher resolution then reduce the size in Photoshop (or another image editor) you will get a cleaner image: [image: 4TzJ_04.jpg] [image: 7d7y_05.jpg]

Cool to see the other ways to "skin this cat" A shout out to Box... I tried to run Solid Tools on the whole text and it threw up an error message, that's why I exploded the text to the individual characters. I wonder if it's a "Mac" thing ?

I may have got the image orientation a bit muddled up on that first model I uploaded. I think Right is Left & vise versa. I now have some little labels to put in the photos with a scale on them. Saves having to remember what photo is what, which I obviously failed to do the first time. It does make it a little less confusing if the photos are arranged correctly....doh! Can also scale more accurately from now on, which also helps with accuracy.Helps to have some ortho photos of it open to use for comparison whilst modelling too. Wasn't really expecting anyone to actually go to the trouble of "the challenge". But here's mine anyway. I think it's pretty close & didn't take too long to build. It's a lot easier when the images are ordered arranged correctly. Might become a texturing challenge next....lol. RockSS007B-SU17.skp

@westy49 said: Am surprised that Curviloft is so expensive. It is £55 a year. This is about one-ninth of the cost of buying an open license for SketchUp Pro 18. I would not mind buying a one-off open license but there is no guarantee that I will use the plug-in very much so I am reluctant to pay so much for just one year's use. Can someone design a more cost-effective plug-in to do the same job? Where did you find Curviloft for £55 a year? Here on Sketchucation it's available at no charge. No need to have someone reinvent the wheel.
