i'm not really a shortcut user, so my experience with shortcuts are fairly limited

make sure you're not trying to change it to a shortcut that isn't already in use

I'm sure they're not in use. Sketchup doesn't remember some of my shortcut settings.
For example Edit/Undo = Alt+Backspace and Ctrl+Z, I remove Alt+Backspace and save, then restart the program and Alt+Backspace, Ctrl+Z are back again.

Failure to save shortcuts sounds like a typical problem with registry permissions due to incorrect installation of SketchUp. If you still have the installer available or can find a copy (your profile says you are using SketchUp 2014 so that might be tricky), right-click the installer, choose "Run as Administrator", and then "repair". Note that the "Run as Administrator" option is not equivalent to being logged on as administrator.

It's a typical (and very irritating- because this key sits next to delete button) BUG IMO. It's been here for decades
            unfortunately

I reinstalled the program (Repair) and cleaned the registry and the problem remains.
Can you change for example Edit/Undo shortcut in your SU? There's more shortcuts that can't be changed. And it's in the newest version.

When you reinstalled the program and chose 'Repair', had you selected the installer file's exe icon and right-clicked > context-menu > "Run as administrator"***

You have not clearly stated that.
If you simply 'Run' the installer [e.g. by double-clicking it], then it will NOT install properly - even if you [as a normal user] have full admin powers !
PS: Don't install when logged in as the administrator, installing properly*** as a normal user [whether you have admin powers or not] is the correct way - there is no alternative that is guaranteed to work !

Yes, I run the installer with "Run as administrator" logged as admin. I can't run the installer as guest with "Run as administrator" because of some error about no privileges.
Other thing I noticed is when I change some shortcuts, save and export it as Preferences.dat they're not included in this file. They work only for current session but not after restart and are not saved to dat file.
Changing of some of the shortcuts works (and are saved to dat file) and some aren't.

Btw, is it normal, that, for example some selection shortcuts (those with "select*" in the name) doesn't appear in shortcuts list before some surface selection? Very strange behavior.

Your PC should have at least one 'user' == 'you' ?
That user may [or may not] have some admin powers [but this is somewhat irrelevant for a successfully installation].
If you are a single user on that PC, then that 'user' will probably have admin powers [but that is your settings].
There is also a separate 'administrator' login, but that is NOT normally used.
Normally it should never be used to install applications...
Use a 'user' account to do that.

Always install using 'Run as administrator' while logged in as your normal 'user' name.

From what I know in Win 7 there are 3 types of user account: guests, standard, administrator.
I am a single administrator user belonging to Administrator group and I think I have admin powers and run the installer with Run as Administrator.
And it doesn't matter because in SU there are still some problems with shortcuts behavior.

It could be that those shortcuts are hard coded similarly to others like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc.
