Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@shura said: Hello Dave, Can you post a screenshot as an example? Maybe it's my english, but I don't fully understand your description. alex I've attached an example of a finished model. What I'm saying is after breaking up the road surface into smaller sections, sometimes when texturing the stripe is aligned to the curve, just as you see here, and in another, similar model, each section has the stripe aligned to the green axis. I was wondering (1) has anyone else noticed this and (2) does anyone know how to force the curve-alignment to happen? As far as my work procedure goes, I usually do a short follow-me from a master profile, texture and position just a few sections of the model, group them, and then copy, paste in place, and then rotate the group from the center point of the road radius, repeating as many times as I need to acheive the length I want. It works well enough. I'm just curious about why SU acts differently with the same sort of problem in different models. [image: 71eW_Clipboard11.jpg]

I tried the remove the definition by doing defn.remove! but I have this exception : (eval):22:in `erase!': Cannot determine parent of entity getting better .. ill try to figure out how to delete thanks for all appreciated inst.erase! erases an instance. group.erase! erases a group. or to 'remove' a defn completely erase! all of it's entities inside a start_operation..commit..

I've never thought about doing the racing surface as a seperate component. I think I'll try that aproach for road courses now.

@jean lemire said: Hi Banaticus, hi folks. Yes, normally, you can use the Dimension Tool inside the group or component to add the diameter of the hole. If you would like this dimension entity to reside outside the group or component and be, instead, at the root of the model, you can try this: 1 - Open the group or component for editing, if not already opened; 2 - Select the dimension; 3 - Cut it (CTRL-x on PC, CMD-x on Mac); 4 - Close the group or component; 5 - Paste in place. Notice that this will break the association of the dimension with its related geometry. Any change made to the circle will not ne reflected on the dimension. Just ideas. jean, that is a seriously convoluted workaround. I dont use dims in su anymore, (except for my working drawings.) For anything that needs presentation, it's straight to 'layout' for moi. baz

@genma saotome said: @jaxcoffee said: Has anyone else used this type of resource to model from? It would be interesting to see if any history has been modeled from this type of information, don't you think? Modeling from Sanborn maps is pretty much what I do. I have a San Jose library card which gives me access to the California maps and at various times I've had access to NC, UT, MT, and NY maps as well. I've found that it helps a whole lot if the building is still extant and can be seen in birdeye's view in MS Bing. Sometimes Google street view is clear enough to also be useful but a lot of times the Bing images is good enough. Do you have any question's in particular? Thanks so much for your input Dave. I have sent a PM to you with a question. Thanks again.

I think you need to be a LinkedIn member to see that discussion, and possibly even a member of that group withing LinkedIn. Moral of the story is, if there are any residential designers out there that would like to participate in the contest, I can give you more details, and put you in touch with the right people. Its a great contest, the show is nice, and the awards ceremony is great as well!

hello, the probleme is that the start face and the end face aren t parallele see picture. [image: Q48M_Clipboard01.jpg] first solution : align bottom edge whit top edge : second solution : make a component, copy and scale x10, push pull through the end face, select the end face and the cylinder, intersect whit selected, clean up and erase the big one (component) : [image: Ijby_Clipboard06.jpg] hope it helps Inges_Problem_Orig.skp

Hi, Import your plans as an image. Then use the measuring tape tool to measure an internal wall and then just type the actual length of the wall and hit enter. You'll be asked 'do you want to resize the model'. Choose yes, and now your imported image of the plan is to scale! It's a case of happy modeling from here. I advise to use layers for different things like Walls, floors etc. It'll prove invaluable

Well for green machine washers: at a farm where I used to live, we had a gas powered wringer machine--but we took the gas motor off, added a starter engine and ran it all on solar collectors. The drying was also solar / wind, on a clothes line. McGyver, I suspect some of the problem with the competitions is not the green element, but the fact that people are trying to invent such things all the time and if it worked, it would soon be on the market. Probably there are examples of some such competitions that actually created a result by proposing new threads of thought--but probably best suited for "appropriate technology" solutions for rural or undeveloped areas.

That's one of a hell "yellow-back" novel (as well as most of his) but since they are rarely translated to any languages (not as if most of them couldbe translated), they will always remain a secret common language between Hungarians...)

Have you tried any of the real 3D trees from the WH and removing the leaves? Most of them are kind of basic (but therefore would also fit what the images show) and generally the leaves are the poorest part actually so without them they might look okay. Also, Alan Fraser posted some example of his work in the CMS forum like this one: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=8246 or this one: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=20675 where stripping the leaves off will also result in some dead looking trees.

Hi Jean, Thanks for the model, but I'm afraid I've gotten to far in the model to go back and change the seating. I've gotten the seating done by just offsetting the bottom of the racing surface to the back of the building's rim. Plus, I have a road leading in and out of the track area so that cars and other vehicles can enter. I will gladly put you under the contributers for the track when I upload it to the warehouse.

A quick little rewind plugin can easily be made. All the code needed is: Sketchup.active_model.pages.selected_page = Sketchup.active_model.pages[0] You can see the result when types into the Ruby Console. A custom toolbar with extended controls maybe?
