BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Well, I hope you're right and it doesn't happen again. That Ctrl X would cut the selection to the clipboard where it would still be available to paste until you hit Ctrl C or quit SketchUp. Still, it's worth paying close attention. Good luck.

TIG, that sounds like a the type of solution I would be looking for, although I was hoping there was an existing plugin that does something similar It does seem like good practice for some scripting though, so I will definitely give it a shot in the coming 2-3 weeks (I am pretty basic at scripting as well, so it will take me quite a bit of time)! Pilou, I am not sure I understand. My problem would be that I would not only have to apply each of the 200 different textures (not repeated as in my example screenshots), but also adjust them to fit perfectly within the hexagons. Could ThruPaint help with that as well? From what I gather from the descriptions I read, it doesnt really have functionality for this purpose?

Matt, sorry for not replying till now. No, I don't think the naming would be an issue, just that the Xref itself may be a problem.

I needed a similar result in order to export to Revit. Here's a link to that post and the solution. Thanks to sdmitch. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=62940

@slbaumgartner said: Does Windows SketchUp support assigning any F keys as shortcuts? It doesn't on Mac (you just get a 'ding' if you try). Yes. I have F2, F3 and F4 assigned to the three component flip commands and Shift+F2, Shift+F3, and Shift+F4 to the Flip along model axis commands.

Warning! "It will realign North in each processed view, but all recent versions of SketchUp allow only one North at a time, so you'll need to copy the model's SKP for each shadowed view and use the scene-tabs to get proper shadows..."

I had no issues with El Capitan and SU Pro 2016 however the OS wouldn't recognise my Brother Wireless Printer nor my Epson 4490 PhotoSmart Scanner. There were no available drivers that were compliant, so reverted back to Yosemite.

Subject: Making measured drawings from warehouse drawings @daddywoofdawg said: I'm using 2016 make and have downloaded a "drawing"from 3d warehouse.I can run the tape over it to get measurements, but what I want to do is make measured drawing with measured components/parts to print out. So my question is how to Make measured drawings from warehouse drawings? The full answer to you question is very long and it depends on how the "drawing" was created. Did the author use components when they drew it? Did they make them correctly and precisely? Assuming they did do those things, you would be able to place copies of the components in the model and use the Dimension Tool to add dimensions and the text tool to add callouts and labels. Scenes will provide you with views you can return to and layers will provide you visibility control. If you want to make professional-looking plans you could use LayOut and add the dimensions and text there.

I'm running Windows 10 and I have Sketchup 7 through Sketchup 2016 installed I was using Sketchup 8 for all my developmental work. Now I use Sketchup 2016 as I like a lot of the new features. More ways to draw arcs, better tool bar handling, trays, better info when working through bugs. The other versions are simply for testing my plugins. I use a strategy where my plugins go into a shared folder that all versions of sketchup use. So I can configure a plugin and then test it on all versions of sketchup. This also makes it much easier when upgrading. When Sketchup 2016 came out all I had to do was drop a 2 line ruby file into 2016's plugin folder. All plugins loaded without having to install them.

Usually, if you align view to a face, the clipping is harder to occur on it. Clipping is related to where your camera is in the model and how big it is. If your project is very big, probably you'll only solve it by splitting your project in multiple files or scaling it down.

@dave r said: Do they have to be PDF exports? If you have a scene for each image you need to create you could use the Image Set export under Animation. I don't know of a plugin that would do what you're asking but you will likely be limited if you are still using SketchUp 6 as indicated in your profile. Yes the exports need to be pdf for import into illustrator so that they can be edited and then final export from illustrator to svg. I'm playing around with a couple of scripts 'export layers' and 'export scenes' but if they could be combined then bliss ...

@box said: @unknownuser said: Or simply select top view, then Cmera, parrallel projection, zoom extents, save scene. That would give you a plan view of an angled roof distorting the relevant sizes, whereas align view would give you a "parallel projection" of the actual size. Here is the same roof from overhead and align view. My apologies, I didn't read all the way through. In your case then: Select face, align view, camera, parrallel projection, zoom extents, save scene. Saving the scene allows you to not go through this each time.

@wimve said: When I search for Draw Helix in the PluginStore and in the ExtensionStore (3.0), I only get one result: John McClenahan: SU Draw Parametric Shapes v2.5.3. This doesn't seem to be Draw Helix. The SCF Plugin Store and Extension Warehouse are not the only resources for plugins and extensions. As for your success after turning the helix on end, Upright Extruder was intended to deal with the twists that occur around climbing paths as typically happens with Follow Me. It was shown in the tutorial.

My work around for now is using UV tool on a simple plane and export this as OBJ. The tex file will be set aside of the OBJ... Voila! Eat this SU! id did add this URL as file name, some windows path of the original builder. Perhaps this causes issues. I think those forward and backward slash at the beginning cause problems on mac "C/\Users\Adam\Documents\Adam Models\SpringLeafBoxwood01.png"
