Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@jim said: The Axes can be fixed using this: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30508 Thanks a lot for this great advice. My headache has been cured finally . I hope this is an evergreen feeling and I wont run into this section cut zoom problem again. And thanks everyone for the advice. I also need an autocad to sketchup workflow tips and tricks so that such headaches and others can be prevented. Is there a complete guide available from autocad to sketchup?

As Jim says - these folder-paths setup the starting folder presented to you in the 'Save' dialogs when you save/export one of those types - e.g. Component > Save... should start in your specified Dropbox folder... SketchUp will always include the default Components folder's contents in the Components-Browser dialog. You can add additional folders to your listed Components setup... These should be remembered across sessions ?

What's probably causing it is this: C:/Program Files/e-on software/LumenRT 4 Studio/LumenRT/Export/Skp/Ruby/extend_string [The string might be curtailed by the error-report ? it probably ends with .rb or .rbs ??] Which is probably failing to load in a 'require'... Does it exist ? Is that path in the $: ? What plugin is trying to load it ? Do you have a 'LumenRT' plugin/extension loading from one of your Plugins folders ? - if so try Disabling it in the SketchUcation Manager and restart SketchUp... The Extensions Manager has a combined list of all Extensions, irrespective of their loading RB's location. If you have multiple Plugins folders setup remember to use the dropdown list in the Plugins Manager, as these are listed separately 'by-folder'... Can you type $: in the Ruby Console to see the array of available folders, from which other Ruby's can 'required'... If the C:/Program Files/e-on software/LumenRT 4 Studio/LumenRT/Export/Skp/Ruby folder is NOT there it cannot require/load a file like ' extend_string.rb' Have you recently messed about with the LumenRT installation ?

@dave r said: I did miss that. What happens if you turn off Auto Render in LO? Auto Render in LayOut isn't really the right answer to the problem. If you simply switch to a different style in SketchUp, or "reload" the style you're on, the temporary style changes are forgotten and you're good to go. It's just that if you make temporary changes to the style, and save your model as-is, you'll get into trouble. It's a good trap for people who don't know what's happening. Because once you open SketchUp again to check your model, your first instinct is to go click on the style to make sure the settings are correct, and sure enough, they will be. So it's confusing.

@pbacot said: ... I've never seen a cache of files like SU produces. I think it's based on the windows concept, but they have never fully explained it... If you do a save at the wrong moment, SU appears to update current model, update the backup and update the Autosave all at the same time... that can easily cause beach-balling... that's why I abandoned it... john

@hellnbak said: Well, I gave it a try. Exported it at higher resolution with anti-aliasing turned off, and it really looked bad. the fence and tower were all screwed up..... I should have said you need to export at least 4x the desired resolution if you have AA turned off, 6 or 8x is better. (and png format is preferable - jpg has pretty awful compression from SU) Glad you figured out your video card settings, much simpler solution

This problem has been driving me nuts for years, in my largest models it was impossible to right click and delete materials from the SU Material Editor. A real pain when SU automatically creates solid colour materials for imported dwgs. Digitalmarley's trick above works! I had to change my Windows 7 theme to Classic (Basic didn't work), and SU stills hangs for about 20 seconds (for each material!), but finally the right click context menu comes up and I can choose delete. Thank you Digitalmarley! Trimble really need to sort out how SU handles materials, it's a terrible bottleneck. /Jackson

The OpenGL settings unfortunately didn't really help. Just as I figured, a style change might be the best thing available currently. I whipped up some styles for my main template and a few plugins that switch between a normal display mode and some construction modes, that's gonna have to do I guess.

the type of component that would explode to form a solid would be one that cuts an opening. So pin pointing those particular components and their influence to explode would be necessary before outer shelling. Using the outliner and selecting, right click exploding would be the quickest. Grouping and naming such geometry would help (you would have to pass the required attributes through of course). like plates with a set of holes would be grouped to Ax_"name" like Ax_plate1, Ax_plate2....so easy to reference the "A" would be a place holder, "x" for explode I believe you would need some kind of naming convention, for a ruby script to seek out and destroy once you have establish a simple method, then you can build a ruby script, or course with help from the gurus. EDIT: just realised that nesting down more than one level is causing your problem as you wrote, However the same principle applies.... use outliner, open(+) to require nested group, can use control to select more than one, right click to context menu....explode

I suppose whoever made them did that. Maybe the extra layer came in from some other app that was used to draw draw them in the same way layers come in from CAD files when they are imported. If you don't want the added layer, I guess you can get rid of it.

unscientific observation regarding the poll: people who were voting in the wee hours EST (1-3a.m.) tend to use emoticons/netspeak.. (the vote was 6to1 at one point) now that we're in 'normal' hours, the vote is leveling out.
