Hey Peter, this is an apt topic for me right now because I'm finally doing just that!! I have started filing my SKMs that I use most on Dropbox under a Resource folder so I can access them from home or work; also for my work colleague so we always have the latest set of materials [thinking about a core library or components as well but just need to make sure they're clean and not too big file size.... A SKM viewer would be good, actually a SKP viewer would be nice too; I'm using a 64bit machine!! And yes, I have cleaned out the standard range of roof tiles, sketchy materials, etc that came with SU3....

Peter, Another option for saving vertical space and reducing scrolling, in topic pages: Goto User Control Panel Choose the Board preferences tab Select the Edit display options panel Turn OFF signatures Turn OFF avatars (Your choice) to also turn OFF images in posts etc... click the Submit button, when done.

@pbacot said: @tig said: Wouldn't CurviLoft's skinning work in the 'holes' edges - there's a quad option too... It might, but I am thinking of irregular shapes. CL seems to want nice outlines. I was looking for something automatic, which Rich provided. But in fairness Curviloft works pretty quickly in the example we had. Draw edges to help Curviloft. Skin Contours with Curviloft. Choose best vertex matching--square and even as possible. With Vertex tools choose the center vertices and merge close vertices (adjust distance as needed). Don't move the perimeter vertices. It's clean enough for Sandbox. [flash 640,480:24t2cd6j]http://www.youtube.com/v/uai2Z3JbzjM[/flash:24t2cd6j]

Seems difficult to move alone vertex with the Autofold (some capricious For move some vertex without plugin I draw an helper little segment and that is it that I move along inferanced lines + Autofold! That avoid some headaches [image: euBT_help_line.jpg]

Regarding a better computer, yes it helps . I had a dual core processor at 2.8 ghz, now a quad at 3.8 with hyperthreading (it helps a lot in multitasking letting sketchup to use the most of one core). A model of 10 mb loads under 5 seconds now, then in about 15 ! I had 2gb of memory now 16 but I haven't seen a consume greater than 6 gb (but not from sketchup which uses around 400mb for a 10 mb file). I haven't changed the video card though but I know it helps a lot cause I saw the difference between the integrated video card and a dedicated video card . Crashes still occur, the overall performance of sketchup seems slightly improved . What I am glad is that when the program is Not responding it gets worked out after some dozen-s of seconds depending on the operations you were doing . With the old pc when the Not responding message appeared it was almost clear, I have to close it . Honestly I thought with this performance it should run like rocket and never stop ,but it seems to be a not well grown up adult! I believe that without the plugins won't crash at all! I hope it helps a bit, although this is just my second PC(ever); so there might be others who have made many upgrades including video cards and the new SSD storage disks(which I heard are way better than regular HDD's) therefor helping sketchup work and load faster . Take care !

TIG that works excellently. Maybe it seems a small thing but it should make working in this project much better. Gives a perfectly aligned scene for LO. THANKS! Peter

Good point. NVM. I have a default setting to an oversize sheet so that inserted images won't be shrunk down. ZOOMING is OK with regular size sheets. For some reason LO doesn't want to zoom out (by scroll) past some point in these oversize sheets. Thanks.

RE for starters. Been using a Logitek LX8 Cordless Laser. Simple enough guess 5 button mouse. Easy enough on the hand. Nothing fancy and is cheap. Logitek Setpoint software sometimes a problem. Like now. Trying to get the buttons i customized to work in sketchup. It's usually ok though. everybody says dont load in the Logitek Software but I like using left side button for control and right for shift which gives me easy 12 choices combined with the 3 on the wheel.

Good notes. I usually try to keep them collapsed, but this still happens, so I guess keeping them closed altogether (except maybe "Entities") would be better, with shortcuts (then the wishlist item for more shortcut modifier keys comes to mind). plugin icons-- Never have a good solution, especially since many (like perpendicular face ) open when I have closed them in previous sessions (yes I've seen a code fix for some of them). I just close them each time unless I think I'll be using one. Wish the Apple toolbar was more useful (more compact and having multiple lines). But that's how it is. Thanks for the replies.

Rich, XnView looks like a really nice piece of software. 26 Euros for commercial use. So far no luck with the others, one crashes at opening, the other is a command line application, which I haven't figured out yet. Thanks for the information. XnView should do it. Peter

Yes, the computer is otherwise operating normally. Other apps don't show this, but SU will seem as if there is no input from the keyboard. But as I noted above (and this may vary), while the cursor moves fine it sometimes won't change the tool either, via icon. Seeing hardware acceleration mentioned in another thread-- I checked and I found it to be ON. Wonder when that changed. It may not be related but I'll report if I see a change. It will take a while to assess.
