Thank you, James, I watched the video before but had forgotten it, as I had not come across a way to use it. Now I can. Still I don't know how to "clone a face". There is no clone in SU Help. If I simply make a copy with the move tool the resulting object is the same as any other in regards to how the texture works. I got what I wanted. I did edit a copy of the texture. Then I put it on a rectangle, and set the texture to projected. Then I sampled it with the paint tool and it evenly covered the warped shape. I didn't like the angle, so I rotated the texture on the rectangle and reapplied. Thanks.

Thank you. I added a line beneath the sill. I realized that I had made my component mostly of groups and I don't think that they help describe the cutting plane. I had a hell of a time working out the axes for the first time, even after watching videos. Now have a usable window. Right, Once I got the component to cut, instead of punching the hole with push-pull, there was nothing at the jambs. I added that in the component too. Fun but time consuming at first (this SU program is). I think I have most of the questions answered, the rest will fall into place. Thanks Again!

I tried reverse faces, but that just gives me whatever texture was on the reverse side. I've tried to keep the faces the right way.

Thanks James! I think I got it. I don't know why the various times I tried it, I never noticed anything. I was working with an ACAD import where the colors are for the lines. Well it changes the faces not the lines in SU.This particular time I hadn't drawn faces yet. However I can get the lines to color as well by using "By material" in the color setting under Styles /edit / Edge. I was hoping to better differentiate lines in the import. Works great. Peter

Thanks for the link Chris. That's interesting. I see what David is trying to do but not exactly what he does. I didn't get the three horizons (and that's his first statement!). But there's nothing like fooling with it to clarify the issues.

Thank you. That seeems to be it. So that can be done. Oddly: I made the other layer visible and saw the lines. I then made it invisible again and lines were now there on the same layer as the surfaces. Hmmm.

Hi, I'm on a Mac 2.4 Ghz MBP. As I noted, I tried changing the style to wireframe. Whereas I have no problem using orbit in SketchUp, the one in Layout only works occassionaly. Yes, it is not helpful that sending a view to Layout is not the same window aspect ratio. Can you scale the view at all without zooming the image itself? I can resize the window but the image stays the same size. Anyway I have view that is tricky at the sides. Show too much and the entourage looks awkward; too little and the building looks cramped in the drawing. As I noted, I try to pull in the side of the window just enough and it pops back to the wider view or too far in. At least it is clear that Layout is useful for most people. The Basecamp demos are encouraging but they never seem to confront the problems I come across. I will try to experiment with very simple model, to see what works. I have had SketchUp for a long time but I am just returning to using it regularly. What I find lacking in the (very generous) help materials is real explanation of how to output an acceptable finished picture (without going to a renderer program). I now know that I must save as graphic (.png works for me, .pdf gives bizarre results) and adjust the resolution in that process. Otherwise a direct print from SU model is jagged and crude. I assumed part of LayOut's function is to complete the output process.

If the previously-provided link doesn't work for you (it didn't for me,) try this one: SketchUp and Photoshop - Lens Blur ...at the official YouTube home of... Google SketchUp Video Tutorials (Is that the tutorial you needed/intended?) Taff
