@dave r said: What kind of mouse did you buy? You'll probably need to have some sort of settings for those buttons in the OS before you can assign any shortcuts. What OS are you using and what version of SU? Most people put that info in their profiles. Its ok Im using a cheap argos wireless mouse, its surprisingly really good. Apparently the top button is the DPI button and cant be changed. so I will be just using xmouse for the two side buttons.

@neostyles said: It's a little hard to get sketchup to make the other circle standing up. What Gai shows works but I don't even do that. I just orbited the camera to a low viewpoint and, in the example, looking mostly down the green axis. Then SketchUp is happy to draw the circle standing up.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll look into all of them and see if there is a tweak or two I need to make.

12 uploaded, 3 pending, I have none listed that are rejected, but my draft rate is terrible. Since I upgraded to sketchup 8, it's usually taken 3 to 4 submissions and a couple of appeals to get my buildings accepted, though much of this is due to difficult terrain. I think a "model this" competition would be really cool. I'm in the US, and I can tell you there are tons of small towns that would even appreciate a group of people modeling the landmark buildings in their community. I also think for those of us who geo-model for GE it would be an awesome way to help give practical pointers on one anothers' models so we can build a better GE. I admit, building maker is not an ideal tool from a usefulness, efficiency, or geometric elegance standpoint, but it does get the job done as far as putting up a facade that goes a step beyond satellite imagery. It also populates buildings most wouldn't think to model, and all it takes to get some of those hideous models off is to model them better, which sketchup can do 100% of the time so long as a chimpanzee isn't running it. My brother's workplace is a great example, I've asked him to get me some pictures of his building, as the current one is a building-maker conglomeration, maybe I'll take before and afters when he finally gets them to me!

These figures (numbers) will never be revealed by Google. Many members here are beta testers of SU but even they have no clue about this. What I would do however is not laugh at some of the submissions but rather cry. Others are extremely cool however. We have a GE subforum here so I will move both of your GE related topics there. Better attention for those interested in modelling for GE.

There are some cool, new features of SU 8 Pro (like solid tools and a bunch of improvements in LO for instance) so if you want to try them, I suggest installing it. Do not touch SU 7. Just download SU 8 (Pro if you want to try) and install it side by side version 7. I have 6, 7 and 8 installed (and use them all occasionally). You can even run two, different versions at the same time. Then if you like 8 Pro, you can upgrade - and yes, I also think it's about $ 95.

Hi, You can replace a button on a chesterfield sofa by removing the old button-through pulling. Discard it and make a knot of twine on a metal pin. Adjust it on the twine needle and insert it into the sofa. Rotate counterclockwise and remove the twine needle. Install the new button and make knots.

I've noticed that tools are sometimes grayed out on my toolbars, but when I click them, they activate right away. So why are they grayed out in the first place? Most tools do not display grayed out. I'm not using any plugins, btw, just the free SketchUp.

@gaieus said: %(#0000FF)[.....When you are proficient enough (but only then ), look at the FredoScale plugin, too. ]As for dividing edges; this method does not only work on straight lined but also on curves (circles, polygons, arcs...) as long as SU recognises them as such ........ +1. Learn how to use the basic SU tools before using plugins. Except for some, like 'Weld'. Most of the plugins are great (time savers / worth a million) but you better just learn SU first. Be aware that (through context menu) SU divides arcs, polygons and circles as expected, however.... the result can easily cause a bug splat. SU has a bug here for sure. Divide and next try to alter the number of segments of one selected part in 'Entity Info'. The segment field is open (white) for changes but will definitly cause SU to come to an end. Dividing edges is okay.

I do not think it would work well with an interior shot as background and furniture (especially kitchen - on and near the walls). You would only have a single viewport where it looks realistic perspectively. Now try to find that point without seeing the background in a renderer (surely there are some with interactive rendering options). Otherwise it is just eyeballing - or you make a PhotoMatch scene in SU - but that's again, only or a single viewport.
