Is there any way to reduce the file size of a 3ds model (downloaded off the internet) when imported in to sketch up. In its self the 3ds file in relatively small but imported in to sketchup it becomes ridiculously big. The ‘Cleanup’ plug-in (by Thomthom) helps, but I would like to know any other way to further reduce the file size.

Hello everyone,
I have been using sketchup of a few months now, and have problem with models that can be download. Is there a way of hiding their mesh without individually selecting the edges and hiding. I am aware that the mesh does not show up after a rendering, but when presenting on a sketchup level the colour of the model is overshadowed by the mesh and ends up seen as a black blob( ).
Suggestions are welcome.
