Thanks to all. I got it. Deleted all those original files and zips, then re-downloaded. Win7 does not like to extract from/to the same location so I extracted from "Downloads" to Plugins and everything seems to be working fine...at least no error messages. I think I see what you're talking about now. Running another test with 25 spheres I found that using a projection map created a file that was 1.3mb smaller than the same file with the same texture applied to the sphere with a non-projection map (not Whaat's sphere uv, but just the generic sloppy SU mapping) and both files were significantly larger in size than just adding the geometry plus the image files size. What I'm still not seeing is SU preserving UV coordinates on an object after a texture has been removed. If I create a bunch of spheres I get a file of 2.0mb, map them with a 50kb image and I get a 4.3mb file. Apply the default material to all the spheres and the file size drops back to just over 2.0mb and running thomthom's cleaner brings it all the way back to original size. -Brodie

hey guys. i am desperate to get my section cut so i can render it with vray for my exam presentation but the bug splat thing is not letting up. it starts cutting through my model but as soon as it starts cutting things from the clipboard it bug splats..... any suggestions?

Paul, When you save the file from MS Paint, select either the .jpg or .png file-type. I'm guessing the forum does not allow .bmp uploads because they take more band-width than the other formats.

I believe that SketchUp exports images at the resolution of your monitor, say 72 or 96 dpi (dots per inch). You printer setting may be, say 300 dpi. So the print will be 96/300, or .32 times smaller then what you see on the screen. SketchUp was never designed to export or print scaled drawings. I think it is possible to match a exported image to a printer, but you have to calculate the print (not paper) size in dpi, then export the image at (in my case) 300/96=3.125 times the SketchUp window size. Say my SketchUp display is 1100x900 dpi (you can get this with the print functions), then I must export the image at 1100X3.125 by 900X3.125. SketchUp has some export limits I do not recall off hand. If all you want to do is print from SketchUp a image as large as you can on your printer, set the printer properties to "scale to fit". This will typically be a low resolution image. To get around that, export a large image to a file, open the file with the default viewer, and print "scale to fit". In any case, always print with a preview, that way you can see if the result is what you want.

Hi Thomas, The current view matters when printing in SketchUp. If you are trying to print an elevation, select Camera > Parallel, and then either Front, Left, Right, or Back views before opening the Print dialog. You can then adjust the Page Size and Scale of the output in the Print Dialog.

Not sure what you mean, and if you post a screen snapshot of the parts of your model you would like to modify, it will be a big help. I don't think what you want can easily be done, that is to edit the 3d wall's, 2d plan lines, then have the application automatically regenerate the 3d walls. However, if you are looking for a way edit by stretching or shrinking parts of your model, one way to do it is in Camera > Parallel projection view, in one of the standard view that is best suited for the selection of the desired walls (say plan view) that you want to edit. Then select the walls you want to edit, from left to right (not the other way), and stretch or shrink the selection, with the "move tool". You may have unexpected results if part of the selected walls are groups or components, and will have to experiment to find the best way of doing this. If you are adding or deleting new walls, it's easier to do that in "Iso" view. Btw, you can search for and use a "draw walls" plugin that will insert 3d walls in a single go.

Use a PNG format with a transparent background - it will work... You must ensure that it has a proper transparent background before importing it [==checker-pattern]

Do you have a lot of similar components in your model? While I am able to open and orbit much larger models, I have a problem with one small 8Mb. model. It contains (among other things) about 190 components (a pine tree), each uniquely rotated and scaled, Each instance contains sub components (3,000 in the model) also scaled. each of the 3,000 instances contains 180 entities, including textures. The model orbits with difficulty, and fails to render. Attached is a SU export of the model.[image: VUVE_Temp00.png]
