      Hey All

      Does anyone else out there think that Google should make SU's inference lock (Shift key) a toggle to be turned on and off (similar to Tab key in Rhino)instead of something you need to keep pressed down?

      This would allow users to enter values in the VCB while locked to a particular inference, and would also mean that people wouldn't have to keep drawing construction lines all the time. Also, it should allow locking to all types of snap points (especially endpoints)as inferences and not just points along a line.

      This is such an obvious improvement to make that maybe someone else out there has pointed this out; i haven't heard of any solutions so far though. Would appreciate some kind of feedback on this suggestion.

      Cheers,

      Joel

        You CAN lock you inferencing to be on ONE AXIS, without holding down Shift, IF you press an arrow-key [this press toggles the inferencing on/off]

        -> == red/X
        <- == green/Y
        ^ [up] == blue/Z

          Yes i understand that and I've been using that function all the while; it works fine except that you're limited to the three main axes. If the Shift key inference lock were to be reworked to become a toggle, this functionality could apply to any direction in the model as long as there are snap points to lock to.

          I just think it would make SU's already-convenient UI a WHOLE lot better.

          Just out of curiosity, is there anyone else out there who thinks the same?

            Me for instance. Sometimes I'd need to Orbit in the meanwhile and keeping the Shift key down makes me Pan all the time.

              Yeah another good reason to rework this function. I'm tempted to write in to Google to make a suggestion but I have no idea where to go?

                Although this section is also (often or occasionally) monitored by Googlers, here is a place for instance: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/label?lid=6921451b4657bdbb&hl=en but you can imagine that this has been suggested even in better places - to no avail for the time being.

                  Isn't it amazing how responsive the SU team is to customer concerns? I expect we'll have this by roughly the time SU has a direct brain interface driver.
